Making plans to go this year to the Mid America's Funfest in September. Can anybody fill me in on the details...worth going to? What is the parking like for trailers? Easy to get too? I book room about 25 miles away from site...appears Effingham is totally booked except for the Paradise Hotel....but for some reason I got bad vib...they wanted cash up front...

Fill me in please, and you guys going?

Collin,

We went to last year's event. There is plenty of trailer parking space so that's not a problem and it's not difficult to find. As with many of the large shows finding a hotel room is often an issue. We stayed in Effingham at the Country Inn which is only about three miles away from Mid-America. There's also a new hotel right next door which might have been the Hilton but I can't remember for sure. Both were very nice.

They had a large turn out of cars last year. It's a different event than Carlisle as you won't find as many vendors but Mike Yager was a great host and his museum has an interesting collection of cars. He has plans to add an auto-cross, skid-pad and a road course in the future on the additional land he has bought.

We have a conflict with this years show and won't be able to make it.

I've been there every year since 1999. I always book the room a year in advance. You might luck into a cancelation if your persisent.
Mid-America is very easy to get to. Coming form the west on highway 70 you take the first Effingham exit and head north. They are only a couple of miles from the highway.
Maybe I'll see you there. :w

Room is booked and ready to go.....especially now that I found out the BEACH BOYS are going to be there.....can you beleive this???? I will be there...look for that 63, I plan to tow it....

Hey EBVette,

If you have not already pre-registered for the event I would call our 1-800-500-1500 line and do so... it will save you alot of time. As for parking we have well over 150 + acres so there will be no problem there. Hope to see you here and any questions please feel free to shoot me an email or call.

Cheers,

Michael

Mike,

Just registered with Doug via the telephone....I told Doug a real good story about my pursuit of the 63 that I have restored....please check with him...

Also, this is my first time, and my first REAL LONG trip that we are towing so I am rather nervous, that is why so many questions.

Regardless, my wife and I are looking forward to the trip, and know you will be the perfect host. I work for Homeland Security, and have VERY limited time off, so we have chosen your event as our summer trip.

This will be one of the first times showing my 63 after a three year restoration, that was posted on this forum...so again we are excited about coming...

Hope to meet you at Carlisle....thanks for reply...

You think you're nervous towing. I'm driving 1,500 mile round trip to Cruisefest in Bowling Green after a complete body off. Hopefully the wheels don't fall off. :D

Good luck, Collin.

Yeah, but I have NEVER towed anything in my life.... I am practicing with an empty trailer...learning, but still nervous.... Trick is to go slow.

Hope you can come to this Mid America event....

We'll look for you. My wife is crazy about the 63. We'll have to check it out.
If it's your first long trip with the trailer, make sure the tow vehicle is up to the task. Cooking the transmission on the road would be very unpleasent.

... and keep her centered at the toll booths. :)
