Well, the wife and I created some real memories on our 2500 mile ride down to Dallas, over to Louisiana and other parts south, before heading home to Ohio.
The Vette performed perfectly and she gathered "looks" on every stop we made.

We kept to "scenic" routes on our way home and it was terrific. Tight turns, lazy climbs, quiet and smooth roads through small towns and open country side. It was a chance for me to get to really know my Vette and how she handles under different conditons - from speeds of 120 to lazy 55 mph back road strolls, she was every bit equal to the tast. It was great fun!!!! and I do mean GREAT :D

Just a few things I'd like some feedback on:

1. I encountered about a dozen other corvettes on the journey and no one offered the "wave". I offered, but to no avail. :confused

2. Had intermittent heater/defroster problems in that the fan would not come on when "asked", but would come on at random. I'm suspecting a loose connection in the switch - so guess I'll need to take the panel off and see what's up - any thing I should be aware of before jumping in?

3. I noticed, as did my wife, that when I floored it to pass a car, the motor stalled - burpped and then took off. Everytime ... not certain what the problem is there.

4. The accelerator pedal is hard to press when starting from a stop. Not sure if it's just a lubrication thing or something in the throttle body?

None of these things were troublesome, but I would like to clear them up.

Since it rained a good deal of the way down there and most of the time in Dallas, I concluded the Vette does not like wet weather. She became awfully hard to start. When the weather cleared up - even though the temps were cold, she started right up first time every time.

If any one has some feedback on any of these issues, I'd certainly be thankful.

Oh yes, wife did think it was way TOOOOOOOO LOUD!!!! So guess I'll be searching for some new mufflers. Oh well.....

What a car this Corvette is. Never imagined I'd have that much fun driving a car!

Hope every one had a terrific Thanksgiving Holiday!!!

Glad you had a good trip. I love a nice long ride, especially in the Vette... too bad she's sleeping now since it's WINTER! :mad
As for your questions:
1 - I have had the same problem sometimes, and then sometimes everyone I pass waves, it goes in spurts. There was a thread about this awhile ago, and someone said that they now wave at the car, that way they don't expect a return and if it does happen, it's just a bonus...
2, 3 - I've got no idea, though I'm sure someone will have some advice.
4 - Mine started to stick really bad when I would first start it up (it'd get alittle better as I drove it that day). I took off the throttle body and cleaned it out really well, and that fixed it completely. Not sure if it's the same problem, but it might help...

I had similar problems with my 99 silverado, took off the throttle body and gave it a good cleaning and took care of the "heavy peddle" and some of the "burpping". I'd guess it's the same problem with your vette, but I am no expert.

nmacdonald,
The trip you took your ’85 on sounded fun, nothing like a long drive to bond with your Corvette!

I’m the furthest thing from a mechanic but I’ll take a stab.

1. You’ll run into that, I can guarantee that if we pass each other on the road and I see you, I’ll wave.

2. Only a guess... if you have the electronic climate control option, maybe the contacts/connections need cleaned. If complicated enough of a task, I always take digital shots of anything on my Corvette that I fix/repair/maintain so I have a visual reference on how it goes back together.

3. Not sure on this one; it could be that the fuel injectors need cleaning. Don’t know what brand of injector cleaner to use on an ’85 TPI.

4. This one sounds like the throttle body (TB) needs cleaned. You can use a carburetor cleaner to clean the throttle, butterflies, and the surrounding round air passages. With the engine off, hold the throttle wide open via the throttle cable, try not to let it slap shut. I wouldn't spray the cleaner directly into the throttle body. Spray the cleaner on a shop rag, with the rag over your finger, begin cleaning. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to wear rubber gloves. If it has been many mile since your TB was cleaned, you may want to completely remove the TB and soak it to clean it. You’d have to remove the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) black, plastic, located on passenger side of TB and the TB top plate. I think it says Tuned Port Injection on it if it’s OEM. You can clean the pintle as well while the IAC is detached. I’d buy new gaskets before reinstalling. I think that if you remove the IACV, you have to reset it.

the fan speed switch is a real chore to change if it is the manual (c60) air unit...Plan on a whole day to disassemble and to reassemble...GM part#16022463 or AC/Delco #15-71226....the part is still available from your Delco parts store...

glad you had a good time...as for the wave I think alot of folks out there don't know that we are a family....therefore they don't know to wave....So just keep waving and maybe they will figure it out....;)

If it is just the heater fan and everything else seems to be working. First thing to check is where the wire plugs into the fan motor. The connection sometimes will burn due to bad connection. Could be relay also depending on how GM set that one up. The throttle body cleaning advice that B17crew gave in 4 is what my son inlaw. who has worked on a lot of throttle body cars gave me. He said to make sure you don't turn the IACV and you shouldn't need to adjust it. I need to do mine in the spring. I have some idle issues, but it is going to be stored for the winter any day.:cry
