I'm replacing my original upper ball joint on the left side due to a torn boot. My mechanic also tells me the tire wear patterns point to the same ball joint, (and 95K miles).

I'm replacing it with a Moog. The original ball joint lightly tapped out with a hammer quiet easily.

What worries me is that the Moog has about 1/64" clearance in the control arm and is not snug at all.

Is this normal? I had thought the Moog would fit as snug as the original and I'd have to use a ball joint press to insert it into the control arm.

This really worries me!!

They have 4 bolts to hold it in don't they?
That should be all you need.

It should be a tight fit!
You should be able to push it most of the way in by hand but the last few millimeters should require you to torque it in with the nut.
I have had bad luck with both Moog and Federal ball joints and hubs.

I spoke to Moog technical support - the guy said the upper ball joints have be redesigned and the four bolts are sufficient.

Thanks for the replies.
