1987 Not a Sh*tbox anymore
Hello everyone,
I know that there are a LOT of posts out there on Optimas, but they seem to conflict. I am going to purchase an Optima Yellow Top for my 87 and I know that there is not a 'direct fit' from Optima. I have seen folks say to use the 34/78 so I was planning on that, but now I notice that the 75/25 was listed as the suggested size on batteries plus website (which conflicts with the assumption that there is not a direct fit.

I used an Optima Red top in my '90. It seems like it was a 28, for some reason. It fit alright, albeit one of the previous owners "modified" the factory mount. The lip of the tray was ground down a bit. The factory hold down kept it in place. The one issue I had was with the top mount posts on the Red top ... the positive terminal was very close to the support from the frame to the A-pillar. I used the caps that came on the battery and also wrapped the support in a foam like is used on water pipes. Fastened this with tie wraps. Wouldn't want to short out the car during :lou spirited driving. The battery was good until the fateful day I lost the car. Had it for three years and would park the car for two to three months at a time, when I would come home it never failed to start right up.

no faith in Optima

after having three redtops fail, in three years, I will never again buy another.

Glad you did some reading and wish you the best.

I got seven years from the Delco and 2 and counting on an Interstate, professionally recommended. then installed by an Optima dealer/electrical specialist, by comparison.

ex-mke cheeser :m

My Delco made one successful year - now its about as powerful as a AA Ray-O-Vac. I am buying the Yellow top (I work for the company that bought Optima and get them at a significant discount)

The Jeep has the same Optima in it that I put in it 8 years ago now and I took it out of a Winston Cup car that had been raced a season. I guess you get a bad one or three in almost anything.
I don't know which one you need, it would be a toss up to me.
End of thread hijack.
