Mufflers ??

I want to install a good sounding set, but I don't want to loose the LT1 rectangle Tail pipe .
How to do it?

I'm no expert but if you couldn't find an aftermarket set of mufflers that had the tip on that you want, could you not just cut the tips off of the stock mufflers and then weld them onto the new mufflers that you got, this would be more of a last resort but it may work.

I just put megaflows with lt1 tips on my 85, all polished stainless steel, quiet although not as quiet as stock 85 or the 94 but sounds good with a bit of a rumble, cost me $550 installed last month. The tips are made by silverline.

on my 94, I cut my mufflers off and had a friend at Midas weld in stainless steel extension pipes and the stock tips. It sounds very nice now. Mellow rumble at idle, louder on acceleration and quiet at cruise on the highway at about 1800rpm.

get a set of 40series flowmaster and tell the shop you want to use the original tips

Buy some Walker dynomax mufflers direct fit style. Good HP sound and the corrrect tips.

I have them on my vette and it's a little louder but zero resonance and low back presure, a good choice.

Put them on my 84. No tinny flowmaster Mustang sound.

My local shop says it will take 2 hours to install properly, at his rate that = $130.00.
Is that reasonable?

Thats BS. The guy is ripping you off, they are nearly a direct fit. The only modificarions that may be necessary is that your original exhaust may not be the 2 1/2 inlet. Easily acomplished by a good muffler shop with a pipe bender. He`s mad because he didn`t sell you one of his cheap lifetime muffler setups that makes his exhaust systems price sound good to a customer where his profit is probably over 75-80 %. Just because you have a Vette he`s actually charging you a $130.00 for less than an hours work.

I agree, there is a Corvette Restoration shop near me he charges $40 an hour labor. Why not try doing it yourself, especially since it is a direct fit; you will save some money and have the satisfaction of doing it yourself.
