Over the weekend, I checked the level of ATF in my 4+3 and found it low, but couldn't figure a way to add the fluid because the opening is so high up on the transmission. I came up with what I think is a neat cheap solution, at least for those of us with kids :) .

I happened to have an almost-empty bottle of gear oil with a very narrow tip; there are other products with similar tops, almost like a caulk tube. Anyway, I filled this with ATF and slipped a thick plastic kid's bendy straw (I think this one came from Friendly's kids meals) over the end and pressed it tight. Then I was able to feed the straw into the hole in the transmission and squeeze the bottle until the fluid got to the right level... Put in about half a quart and didn't spill a drop until it hit the top of the hole.

You da man Rich...:_rock

I have been contemplating how to do that with the differential fluid...thanks for the heads up!

What timing Rich! I just filled my differential and transmission this afternoon, in preparation for the engine re-install. Luckily for me I had a transfer pump so it was relatively easy to fill the rear end; the transmission could not have been simpler to fill, I just turned it on its side. :L

By the way, Redline synthetic gear oil smells just as bad as the friction additive. You know, like someone who's been sweating a lot but who hasn't bathed in weeks. :gap

Ken...

I have heard some good things about redline....what you got to say?

All of my lubrication needs will be handled by Red Line synthetic lubricants (gears, manual trans, motor oil, and Water Wetter for the radiator. ;)

Check out their site Ray: Red Line lubricants. :upthumbs

Oh, in answer to your question, I have no previous experience with them, but have heard nothing but good (except for a slam that Amsoil accuses Red Line of initiating towards them.) I'm putting all my eggs in one basket you might say, eh? Gotta have faith in something. :o

Well Ken....

If you feel that strongly about them to put it in your new motor after what you have gone through then count me in....Redline next change....thanks man...:w
