Over the weekend, I checked the level of ATF in my 4+3 and found it low, but couldn't figure a way to add the fluid because the opening is so high up on the transmission. I came up with what I think is a neat cheap solution, at least for those of us with kids

I happened to have an almost-empty bottle of gear oil with a very narrow tip; there are other products with similar tops, almost like a caulk tube. Anyway, I filled this with ATF and slipped a thick plastic kid's bendy straw (I think this one came from Friendly's kids meals) over the end and pressed it tight. Then I was able to feed the straw into the hole in the transmission and squeeze the bottle until the fluid got to the right level... Put in about half a quart and didn't spill a drop until it hit the top of the hole.
