Hey all you corvette experts, I'm attempting to figure out why there are no replacement brake lamp switches available that look anything like the one that is worn out on my 68 corvette. Mine is a metal switch/bracket assembly with a pivoting lever to actuate the switch. All the replacements I have found are a plastic cylinder type switch. I would use the replacement but I can't begin to understand how to mount it. Any ideas would be very helpful as I am dead in the water. :hb

I can't remember if I got this info here or one of the other vette sites but, was told that the original part is still available AC Delco part # D886 .

I'd check with NAPA and your local Chevy dealer or maybe AC Delco has a website.

I lucked out and had a good switch in a parts car I bought.

BTW........ do yourself a favor and take out the drivers seat.

Fixed original switch!

I ended up uncrimping the original switch housing and taking it apart without destroying anything. I made a replica of the spring-loaded electrical contact.
I'm sure I won't have to worry about it for at least another 37 years.
