Thing is , I looked for it inna Ecklers but they don' have it .
Is it possible to change the locks on a vette , I mean the door lock and a key and a steering column situated on ignition lock and a key .
I know the latter have this coded thingie in it , value 1 to 15 ... how do you measure it or how do you know what value it is , in order to order it :)
thanks in advance

I have never seen the locks anywhere other than GM. Cheap they are not!

If you buy the locks from GM they have a machine that test your keys so that they can cut your new keys to match. The value that your key must match is stored in the VATS module not the ignition lock unit.

The actual key values and the measuring procedure have been posted many times on this forum. Do a quick search and you should find all of the info you need.:lou

Well, i do want the locks from GM , just the other ones . I would like to change them on my vette . the locks are usually changeable on other marques . For example what happens if one loses his vette keys ? And I don't think we have here the possibility to measure the key resistance at GM dealer .
I will have to do myself

I found this with the search feature of this forum in less than 20 seconds. 90% of your problems can be solved in less than 1 Min. using the search engine... Give it a try.:upthumbs

Here are the values for the 15 keys. Measure across the pelet with an ohm meter to get the value of your key.

2 • 523 ohms (acceptable range 502-564)

3 • 681 ohms (acceptable range 650-728)

4 • 887 ohms (acceptable range 850-942)

5 • 1130 ohms (acceptable range 1085-1195)

6 • 1470 ohms (acceptable range 1411-1549)

7 • 1870 ohms (acceptable range 1795-1965)

8 • 2370 ohms (acceptable range 2275-2485)

9 • 3010 ohms (acceptable range 2890-3150)

103740 ohms (acceptable range 3590-3910)

11 • 4750 ohms (acceptable range 4560-4960)

12 • 6040 ohms (acceptable range 5798-6302)

13 • 7500 ohms (acceptable range 7200-7820)

16• 11800 ohms (acceptable range 11328-12292)

Big thanks to you , SpanishVettes. I , yeah , was about to do the search myself , but so much work I got on my hands here .
Well , resistance problem solved , still have another problem , where to get those locks ... Is ignition lock replaceable ? it has to be , I hope .

Do you need just the keys or are you looking for both keys and locks together....
the keys can be purchaced at any good locksmith store or go to eBay and punch up keys..... changing the locks them selves is a real pain in the rear
Mike

Yeah , I need the new locks with the keys . Ecklers offers only keys , blanks or "preprogrammed " if you notify them what's the key value (VATS) .

You can buy the ignition lock here

Lake Chevrolet will ship you the part to you anywhere in the world and their price is hard to beat.

You will have to tell them the VATS code to get the right keys or do the VATS bypass. Before asking how do a search. There are many threads about this.

There are plenty of Chevy dealers in mainland Europe that sold Corvettes, Holland or Belguim in particular, search for Arton's Corvette a Dutch Vette specialist http://www.artoncars.com/ and they should be able to sort something for you.

I got a set for a Camaro that I had here in England from a place called Baur Millet in Manchester, just gave the guy the ohms reading from the key and they sent what I needed, I assume it will be the same set up as a Vette.

Another English place that should be able to help is Claremont Corvette, http://www.corvette.co.uk/ allegedly one of the biggest around and will ship anywhere.

Estonia is nearer to Finland and Germany.
I had a key ordered lately and just measured the code with a multi-meter.
and went to the local keymaker to copy the original.

My geography is not very good :L I thought of Holland and Belguim because I worked in Spijkenisse a lot a few years ago and drove down in to Belguim a few times to get the Ferry when I couldn't get a ticket from Rotterdam so passed buy a few Chevy dealers here and there. I am sure there are some in Germany as well I just never saw any when I passed through.

Thanks anyway . I 'll try those places . If it's Europe , it is a bit easier.
thanks again ... I'll let ya know how it will go:)
