Hey everyone,

Well, I'm really getting antsy waiting for the weather to break. So I decided that in the mean time, I could order up some new plugs and wires, and get that going.

Here's what I have:
454 LS-4 motor
HEI Distrib.
Hooker Sidemount Headers

My thoughts:

I need new plugs that will handle the HEI voltage well, and I need wires that will transver that voltage well, along with good heat resistance, as those headers get HOT HOT HOT!!!

My questions:

What do you think I should go with (Brands)? What size plugs to I need? What gap should the plugs be?

Thanks!

-Dave

Stock type plugs, stock gap. Choose whichever manufacturer strikes your fancy, they're all the same. Everything else is marketing BS and will make no difference.

Can't help you with your BB wire question, I don't have a truck motor in my car ;LOL

:eek Why you little _____ !! .... It's only a truck motor if it came from a truck. This is a CORVETTE motor!! :D

I went with the MSD Heli-Core wires. I bought the universal and routed them over the top of the engine rather than underneath.

Do Not get solid core Nor graphite core wires. Simply ensure it's 8mm to 9mm, spiral or helical wound wire for BBC w/ HEI. Taylor, Moroso, Accel and MSD are good wire brands. You might like the way Taylor forms their plug boots ... they're easier grasp w/fingers. If your plugs have been about right, then go with them gapped at about 0.045" for HEI. I like simple plain old nuthin' fancy plug designs ... I like Bosch, Autolite and ND (nippon denso) plug brands.

Thanks Jack! I agree with your synopsis of keeping it simple. I wouldn't want to do a dual or quad tipped plug. I've got Taylor wires in my Trans Am... I think I will go that route.

I have heard nothing but good things about Taylor or MSD. I think those are the best around even though they are a little expensive, but you pay for the best.

Anybody have any comments on the 'repro' GM Packard wires one way or the other? Or the ACDelco service replacement wires?

OK I need more help... I've been talking with lots of people, and they have brought up even more questions for me.

-How do I determine what heat range I need in a plug?

-Are there any "plug application guides" I can use? I haven't found any.

Thanks!
