I am trying to help one of our men in Uniform here sell his 96 LT4 coupe. It has 62K miles, 6 speed, suspension pkg, white with black interior. Supposedly only 18 were made in this configuration. He is trying to get together a list of the other options on the car. I told him I think they are on the underside of the console lid. Can anyone out there help me price this car for him? He is being transferred and can't take the car with him. Thanks.:w

Randy

PS: I will be taking dig. pics next week for him so I will post if anyone is interested. Car is located in Richmond, VA.

When you get down to the specific options like that, you are bound to see a low number.... I think my 'Vette is 1 of 20 made, when you consider '96 CE, red interior, LT4, and Z51. So, you really can't get to that kind of detail to consider rarity.

This car has 2 things going against it. The biggest one is the color combo. White Corvettes, with a few exceptions, tend to have lower values than other colors. The other problem is the miles, a bit in the shady area for Corvettes. This car is going to be a driver for someone, but on the other hand, there is a lot of value to be lost by driving it, so the value takes a hit now. An average price for the car, assuming it is in good shape, would be around 15k. That is without knowing all the other options or lack of options, and assuming it is a coupe. let me know the rest of the details and I can get a better price for you.

Thanks guys,

I kinda told him that the 1-18 thing was probqably no big deal. I also told him I thought between 15 and 17.5K depending on the other option. Daryllawman sent me a link to Kelly and they said around 18, 500 or so. I think that is a little high but that's why I asked the CAC members. I appreciate your quick responses and if anyone else wants to chime in feel free. I will get the additonal info hopefully by Friday.

I would say 15 - 17k depending on condition. Good luck, Guy

Price???

Hi
at the wholesale auctions a vette as you discribed in good condition will bring at this time of the year top dollar.

Don't take less then 17.5. A regular Lt1 wold bring 15.5 and both price's will crest in 60 days.

Dealers will ask for the LT4 20-22 thou, but will give a 60 day warrantee worth almost nothing.

The mileage is average and if you don't drive it, get rid of it or make it a planter.

The Vette with high mileage is a vette lover who loves to drive it. A low mileage vette means that the owner cannot afford to drive it. lt's not an investment, it's just a cool car for the dollar.

Not looking to ruffle any feathers, but it's not an exotic.

Let's get real and enjoy what we have.

If I could afford to buy his car I'd give him what ever he wanted! GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS YOUR FREIND:pat

kelly bb in my opinion is usally low. I'd go with nada. and remember that if the car has low mi. and is in ex. condition throw the book out. in the next month the price of a vette will go up dramaticly. SPELLING:s

Try using Edmunds, as in www.edmunds.com. Price the car out. I would say about $15-17K if you're lucky and the car is in good shape. Unless that is an immaculate Grand Sport I can't see anyone who knows what they are looking for coughing up $20K+. Not with 62K miles. The LT4 doesn't jack the price up that much.

While the prices of Corvettes fluctuate with the seasons, Coupes have far less volitile prices. Convertibles on the other hand, really do move with the seasons.

Kingman: I have had a few corvettes... I have driven them all as daily drivers. Only until my current corvette did I decide to get a second car (after driving it every day for a good 6 months and 10,000 miles). I basically figured out it was cheaper to own a second car to take the abuse of driving to work and on long trips, than to own only the Corvette. By having a second car, it makes my time in the Corvette much more enjoyable. It isn't just my car now, it is my Corvette, my toy, and one of my sources of stress relief and fun.

If you want to know the truth, Corvettes are investments. C4's cost an average of $2,000 per year in maintenance to own. Insurance is generally higher than a standard car, gas costs more, AND you only have a 2 seater sports car... no real room to haul stuff or people.

So, my Lincoln Town Car gets me to where I need to go. My Corvette gets me to where I want to go. :)

my mistake I didn' see 62k on the car.:eyerole

Say it like it is!!!!!!!!!

VetteLT193, really nailed it, l like the way you put it.

But $2000 a year, it seems high but you are probably right.

Ok I'll disagree and take the flak for it :(

Corvettes are investments if you bought it for that reason. That is not the only reason to own one. If you want to sit it on a pedestal, or only drive it nice weekends, or control the mileage to 1,000 miles or so a year then it would be a good investment.

I bought mine with every intention of driving it everyday. Rain or shine, cold or hot. I enjoy it almost everyday. I don't care what the resale or trade value is worth because it isn't getting sold. It will get run until I get another one. Then it will go to my son. I already have 92K miles on it now. Doesn't bother me one bit. I'd rather drive it everyday and deal with the high miles than just look at it sitting in the garage doing nothing.

Just my opinion and why I bought my Vette.

It took me twenty years to realize all that keeping my `60`s muscle cars in storage only bought me boasting rights. I`ve had four cars in storage for years, until a friend of mine bought a Harley, and convinced me that the only thing that mattered was PUTTING ON THE MILES. Granted, one would suffer a bit riding a bike every day, but some people do. Not me. It took me twenty years to realize that all my low mileage cars just were a waste of potential pleasure. I considered building a Cobra, OK, OK, it would have had a small block Chev. The vehicles` not the issue, hit the road :J

I've been doing a lot of shopping the last month - A LOT of shopping since I plan on purchasing another Vette within another month. $15-17k is right on the money and it's a buyers market right now. If my dough comes in soon I'd be interested, but I don't expect it for weeks. I'd love to see the pictures though.

vette-dude --- Can anyone out there help me price this car for him?

Whatever your friend decides to do... DO NOT TRADE IT IN. It is worth about $9-11 thousand depending on the condition. Private party is anywhere from $14-16 depending on condition, service records, etc. It is a buyers market.

We had a white 98 VETTE that was at our dealership forever, people loved the car, loved to drive it, but couldnt stand the color.

GOOD LUCK!!!

That`s the kind of car that I like. I always go for the rejects. Vanity, who cares, it only costs $$$$$. What did the `98 eventually sell for (to a wholesaler?). You can send me a private message (PM), if you`re so inclined. By the way, what are you doing on line @5AM California time? It`s 8AM here and I gotta` get to work......

We sold the VETTE for full sticker $26.9 + fees to a 24 year old. His cousin bought a TUNDRA truck for $200 under invoice. Package deal. I was the salesman on the TUNDRA... :(

Be careful of dealership VETTES... a lot of "lookers" drive the car very hard, realize how fast the car is, and then buy a minivan or whatever.

This one however was a single owner trade-in and had a full service history and was only abused for 25 +/- miles. We gave the owner around $15 thousand for it.

Here are the options on the Vette that's for sale. This guys uncle is telling him it is worth 25K. Don't know. Seems like everyone says it is in the 17K to 19K range. Thanks for all the responses. Do any of these options make it worth more?

RPO - Description - number of 1996's with that option - % of total build
10U - White - 3210 - 14.9
CF7 - Base Roof (Coupe Only) - 8049 - 37.4
FE1 - Base Suspension - 19667 - 91.3
F45 - Real Time Damping - 2896 - 13.4
ML9/LT4 - 6 spd tran/330 HP Eng - 6359 - 29.5
UJ6 - Low Tire Pressure - 6865 - 31.9
UM6 - Cassette / Radio - 3422 - 15.9
U1F - CD Player - 17037 - 79.1
19I - Black Interior - 10116 - 47.0

It also has the following options...but I can't find the RPO's for these:
1) I have two tops...the original that came with the car and I bought a used Glass Roof Panel
2) AM/FM Cassette with Single CD...premium sound.
3) Dual Air Bags
4) ABS
5) Leather
6) Dual Power Seats
