I'm getting some stuff together for a full system flush next weekend. How much total fluid goes into a 95's cooling system?

Also, while i'm in there, i'm going to replace the thermostat. I figure at 60k, its just good maintence. I'm thinking about going with a slightly lower temp than stock, but still want hot air in the winter. I know 165 would most likely be too low, so does anyone have any recomendations?

Thanks!

Zane

Your owner's manual should have the coolant capacity in it somewhere.

According to Mike Antonick's Corvette Specs, the system capacity for cars equipped with air conditioning was 9.61 quarts for the LT1 manual, 9.39 quarts for the LT1 automatic and 14.73 quarts for the LT5.

thanks. I don't have the manual (or the car for that matter) anywhere close by.

Any suggestions on the thermostat?

EDIT: Isn't those numbers sorta low? Only 2.5 gallons in the system? I'm reading on other sites that 14.5 is the correct number :confused

I kept the stock stat in mine with a Hypertekll programed to turn on the fans as if it had a 160* in it. Warm in the winter and low temps in traffic in summer. An expensive solution but it worked.

I only have a service manual for my '87. Those numbers came from Mike's book for the 1995 Corvettes, that's all I can tell you. It doesn't appear to be a misprint.

Well, i do appricate you taking the time to help me out. :cool Thanks!

This is for a 95.......

Vin P Engine..........17.8 qts.

Stock thermostat is 180".:Steer

Oh oh, now you made work for me. If Mike's book is incorrect, which would be highly unusual, I shall have to notify him. If he is correct with his numbers, then someone is in error. :confused

Yeah.

All I could find at the moment was reference to the 2002 Z06 Corvette, and it has a cooling capacity of: Engine coolant (qts/liters): 11.5 / 10.9 (automatic) 11.8 / 11.2 (manual). So there can't have been that much diifference between the LT1 and the LS1 can there?

I think the 14.7 qts. is for Vin J.....ZR1 engine. (95). I think the 1990 & earlier were 14 qts.

i'm still confused. I can't believe the car came with a 180Deg stat from the factory. I thought it was a 195 or higher...

Yep... my '87 is 14 quarts. Not that that helps any. :Silly

Hi there,
Per page 6b-41 in the 95 Corvette service manual.
17.8 quarts total capacity.
Also, 14 ft lbs on the knock sensors, with teflon sealing tape, only if needed. Do not use regular sealant on the sensors, and dont drop them.
Allthebest, c4c5:hb

180# is correct for the LT1. They do tend to run a little warm though.:Steer

Believe it. The L98's came with a 195° but the LT1 got 180°.
You have 2 choices for a new thermostat, the stock 180° or 160°.
There's no in-between. Which ever you get make sure it is for an LT1
(reverse flow cooling) otherwise it will not work properly.
