Neon in the gills? Nah.... (Pics)

The Neon trend intrigued me, not because I wanted something associated with ricers on my Vette, but because I felt that they weren't going far enough.

A while back I bought a pair of small trailer taillights and stuffed them in the gills to see what they would look like. Not too bad... not bright enough though..

I found a couple of 12 LED 3rd brake lights for $9 each and this morning I put them in the gills, hooked to the driving markers and the turn signals. Not only are they brighter (as bright as neon), they are directional and work as signals too.

Here are a couple of pics... I'll post another when it gets dark so you can see how it looks.

What do you think? Rice?

I like the turn signal idea. It will probably be bright enough at night.

Preacher, I like it. Subtle not over the top. Definitely an eye catcher. I would like to see them at night.

Sorry about the delay... this digicam SUCKS at night shots. I took about a hundred and they just plain suck.

The lights son't light up the gills as well as I had hoped but from behind they are VERY bright.

90 degrees (directly side on)

With the front marker light for reference

45 degree off center

Almost directly behind the car... abot 5 degrees out

See... I told you this camera sucks....

yeah they look pretty good.

someone else has them on in the gill area but are the blue neons on a blue car. they looked pretty good like blue flame coming out of the gills

neon(LED's) never hurt anything and when used tastefully it almost always turns out looking really good.

Be careful, whether you like it or not, in the basic middle of the car. Amber should probably be the correct color or the bandits or road agents may ticket you.

The law here says they have to be facing rearward if they are red, and these are so I should be OK....

I saw a C5 with a red rope-light in the gills once. I though they look good like that.

the neon sounds like a interesting idea. I have a silver collectors edition - 96. what color should I use. I like the idea of flames coming out of the gills. How did you wire them to the turn signals/directional markers. thanks for any info.
