Getting very impatient, yet excited on the new 06 vert. I ordered feb 28th. I called the dealer today, not wanting to be a PITA, he said "should be soon, we'll let you konw" I (think) I remember someone posting that they got a tracking number, I may be wrong. Is there anyway I can check on the car without dealing with the "salesman"?? Nothing aganist sales-people, I am one also - LOL

I am curious about that as well. I ordered a black coupe ( Cashmere ) on March 17th. I have an order number, but no build date as of yet. I am also impatient. Mike

Hey guys,
If you "ordered" on a certain date that doesnt mean GM will pick it up right away. The dealer has to have an "ALLOCATION" an allottment if you will of a vette. Those are on weekly cycles. If you order this week and I have an allocation for the week of April 24th thats when the order gets placed, then eventually 10 to 14 days later gets a production week or "TPW" once it gets a TPW it will get built sometime during that week and then delivery is usually 14 to 28 days after the build date. The dealer can get an order number : example JTNC6W etc etc.....that is the order "#" he can track the history of it. For example it will tell him if the order has been picked up, when the TPW is and any other history relating to the order. NOW if the dealer does not have any allocations left for the 2006 model year then get your money back and go find a dealer who does....Sometimes you may order and the dealer doesnt get an allocation for 4 to 6 weeks later and then it gets placed.

According to the dealer, today my order got picked up. There allocation was for one car today, and it was mine. I'm still not sure when it will be built, but at least we are moving in the right direction. No options were on constraint, so it should'nt be too long now. Hopefully!!!

Thanks for the detailed explanation, the dealer faxed me a copy today, he said it comes on "tuesdays" - order number KBJTGT (I have no idea if those numbers are indicitive of anything??) the salesmen said the order was "picked up" by the factory. and that was no guarentee of when the build date will be. So, he felt it would be about 4 weeks or so before it arrived, I ordered it (paperwork bought it) on Feb. 28th. Does that seem about right? also, under options it has FE9 - federal emissions, I assume that's the standard US emissions. Is that any additional emission control? I hope not. Thanks for your help. Jon

FE9 is the standard emissions, if you dont live in the NY,CA states etc. As far as order being "picked up" lets say you order a vette from me.. I put the order in with Chevrolet. The order gets accepted as a "preliminary" order. That "order" sits in the order bank with the dealer until Chevrolet allocates one for that dealer. Once one is allocated, the order moves from "preliminary" to "set for production" which is the time that the dealer receives the "TPW" target production week. Thats the week it will get built...
SO..........depending on what your dealer means by order getting picked up could mean two different things. If you ordered the end of Feb I would normally say youd have your car by the end of May but it also depends on how big the dealer is or if hes a small guy then when his allocation comes about....That order number is correct....matter in fact Ill go into dealerworld (a dealer website) and search the order number to explain exactly where the order is in the system....Ill do that tomorrow when I get to work for you.....

Thanks again, that is more than appreciated!!! Thanks Rob. Let me know. Again thanks,

P.S. the status reads.....
current event: 1100 - preliminary order accepted..........
So I guess that means it is not a "TWP"

Preliminary order accepted means that when a dealer puts an order into the system, its accepts it. Now GM has to pick the order up (when the dealer gets his allocaton that week) once GM picks it up then you get a TPW (target production week) then during that week it gets built and then shipped to the dealer.

Got ya, were you able to find any details at the GM site you were speaking of? Thanks Jon

Hello Waterboy
Could you look up my order number? If you can that would be great. I have a black coupe that was "picked up" last week. The dealer said that his allocation was for one car and it was mine. The order number is JZRD79. Anything you can find out would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike Perry

so tired... tired of waiting...

My dealer ordered my car on 1/30. Today is 4/8 and they STILL don't have a TPW. It pretty annoying and it really messed up my plans (financing, insurance, etc.) if you orders yours in March and you have a TPW, congtrats. I was told 6-8 weeks. It's been 9 and there isnt even an official order just a "request"

Wow, that is absolutly unacceptable. This "allocation" crap, is crap! Let me get tis right, GM is losing billions, but can't build-SELL a car for someone with money, their paying customer base!!! GM feels the "stealer" is their customer, not the consumer! Without (US) consumers there would be no dealers, this is such a common sense issue it just pi$$es me off to no end. I am sorry to hear of your insane delay, and hope it gets resolved. I also, of course hope I don't have a similar experience.

Does your dealer have a decent allocation per year? I believe mine does. That may be the issue. I agree with jonsflavette, if you are needing to sell cars, especially high end ones, they should just fill those orders regardless of allocation numbers. mperrsysr

The problem LIES in the salespeople/dealer not being up front about their allocation, hell I never heard that word when buying a car till now. Or saying they have adequate allocation, when in fact they often don't! The sale gets "closed" based on the "no problem" 8 weeks or so mentallity. Then 2 months goes by, and it's a catch 22 for the consumer, what are you going to do?? - start over again with another dealer?? I am not saying all are this way, so please don't jump on me, I am just upset that I am trying to pay 60K for a car, from a company (GM) that has alot of financial issues, and they can't build, therefore SELL me a car. The allocation program is so damm silly! You got cars sitting on the lot, cars continue to be built to SIT on dealers lots, and customers doing everything they can to buy a very special c6 car. GM gets their stuff together, only to stumble on the common business fundementals. Hell, you want a bigger depoist than the 1K all dealers ask for (I always joke when the Mrs. brings up the money issue, I say RELAX HONEY-IT'S 1/60TH PAID FOR:L ) fine, I'll give you 10K, build my damm car that I am TRYING to BUY from you! OK, I am gonna have a beer and chill. Going to take the 79 out tonight and remember the good ol days.:beer

yeah and think about it. Most people are paying sticker or near sticker for these cars, so GM is certainly making money. It's not like your buying a Cobalt and you are getting $5000 in incentives. What bothers me is I can go to one of these "corvette only" dealerships and get one tomorrow off the lot. Unfortunatly, what they have on the lot is not what I want. If I'm dropping this kind of money on a car I want it the way I want it. I'm not going to settle. When it comes to these orders, they should just build them on a first come first serve basis. It's not really fair that some huge dealership in florida that sells thousands of cars should be able to jump the line in front of a little dealership in Idaho. You know the dealer in Idaho could use the profit from that car much more than the big dealership. These are just some thoughts. It's not the dealerships fault. i don't blame mine and I certainly don't blame any others.

I think alot of it just depends on where your located, I ordered mine last year on March 7th and was told 8, 10 maybe 12 weeks so I prepared for the worst (12 weeks) lo and behold on the 14th of April I get a call........"Sir your corvette was just unloaded off the truck"....(WoW I nearly SIMP) He said what do you want to do???? I said, "Come and get it" 38 days from the time I ordered it til the day I picked it up and drove that sweet baby home.......And to make matters even better I got about $5000 off the sticker and a $1000 rebate...........Is this a great country or what?
What a great great feeling!!!

Man I HATE :L :D people like You!! pay less, (I was 3500 under) and use a rebate, AND actully get your vette quickly:mad I am in west palm beach Fl. not exactly yahooville, and no shortage of a potential money buying vette base.

I got this information when I was in your situation. Hope it's useful. I picked it up on 2/20 and am over 1K miles! Love the car. If you have the time and contact Kevin in time, you can even watch your car being built! I was too late for that but did have museum delivery which was great.

Sometimes you can even drive your 'vette off the line to the QA area. He usually responds to emails the next morning, early.

Thanks for the info. That is very helpful. Hopefully when I hear the update on Tuesday they will tell me it is in the 3000's.
