New 2010 Crystal Red ZR1- Trans problem

Picked up a new ZR1 Friday afternoon (8 miles) and after 25 miles noticed a whirling sound from the transmission. Dealership diagnosed this morning and yes the transmission has to come out and be repaired. They suspect that it could be a counter balance gear that is defective.
This is where it gets interesting; the tech says that he's very sure that they ( GM) will want him to tear it apart and then rebuilt. I said no, just get a complete new replacement transmission and exchange. I'm bracing for a confrontation so I'd like to be prepared.
Need some help from the forum suggesting methods to help them (GM) see the light and just replace the complete transmission. Contacts and numbers would be appreciated. Located in Las Vegas

They say counter shaft, but how do they know??? Per GM guidelines THEY HAVE to tear it down first to SEE what is wrong, perform a cost analysis and then determine how to go about the repair. GM requirements are very specific. If after the teardown, whatever they find will then contact technical assistance and then possibly raise the level of the case to an engineering inquiry.

Please understand there are other ways to go about it, but until a final ACCURATE diagnosis is given, how does ANYONE know what to do next ????

I would wait till there is a teardown and evaluation, then proceed.

Typically c4c5 Specialist is spot on. Had he not already answered the question, I'd have posted the same thing.
 
Hi Everyone Update on progress to date.
First of all I wish to thank the forum members and the people that responded both publicly and via PM's.
- received a pm and discussed via phone on problems and expectations. This person worked for GM and wanted to help by sending a email up the chain of command at Gm and to the proper people at Bowling Green.
- Received a call from GM and we had a heated discussion. He wanted to remove the transmission , tear it apart, analyze the internals, get powers to be to recommend how repair it, install back in vehicle. Also he agreed that all of this could take over a week to perform. I said no- I didn't care want exactly was wrong with the transmission replace it; as this would only take one day and I was still driving the car. Mentioned that I called another dealer in Vegas and that if their Porsche ,Austin Martin, Jag would have had this problem they wouldn't hesitate to immediately replace the transmission. I said that if Corvette wanted to run with the big dogs then they should be prepared to act like the Big dogs. Gm person completely agreed with me but wouldn't do what I wanted. He left me with the understanding that he would try to do what he could.
- Played my trump card and canceled the cheque as the dealer hadn't cashed it yet. Phoned the dealer and said that I was with holding payment until this matter was resolved.

- Oops did the sh-t hit the fan. 1 day later I received a call from GM and was told that a brand new transmission was being set to the dealer for next week install and they were very sorry for any hardship or inconvenience that they caused me. Also GM said that the transmission vendor wanted the transmission back to them intact for their analysis.
- Received emails from both GM and the dealer confirimg that the dealer would have a new transmission by March 31 and I booked for April 1 to do the exchange.
- Looks good so far and when the job is finished I will give them the funds. Hoping that next Thursday is a smooth day.

Everything appears Ok and the old transmission is being sent back to the vendor. GM Corp stepped up and co-ordinated everything from the shipping to authorizing the dealer to exchange the transmission. A very nice change from what they started out wanting to do. Faith has been restored. Also paid them in full for the car.

Awesome! Glad to hear that everything worked out well for you.
 
An aqaintence of mine was having problems with his new truck transmission. He took it in 3 times but chevy couldnt find anything wrong with it. So he goes home puts it in drive then reverese and a good throttle repeatedly till the transmission blew apart. He then called them up and told them to pick it up and see if they could find anything wrong this time. They put him in a new transmission.
 
Strange, this is the second time I here transmisions problems by a brand new ZR1! :eyerole

There is an internal Chevy memo that essentially says "make ZR1 the customer happy - whatever it takes." So that's what they did.
 
Just a question, would this replacement Tremec TR6060(MH3) have the cars VIN marked on it, or does this new car not have a "numbers matching" transmission now.

I realize this may not be important to a lot of owners of GM's 3rd usage of RPO ZR1, but I wonder how GM handles retrofits such as this. Might as well ask these questions now, because in 30-40 years having a "non-numbers matching" powertrain will surely be an important point of bargaining.

Same for warrantied LS9's, what if any procedures so far as VIN's or other identifiers are used for GM powertrain service parts?

I know of no effort by any manufacturer to keep a vehicle "numbers matching" while performing warranty work. I may be wrong, but I've just never heard of it.
