I purchased new carpet for my 78. None of the old carpet was tacked down to the body of the car. Is it supposed to be or does the rear compartment and seats hold each peice in place?

I just finished replacing the carpet in my '79. It was not taked down. There are several places where the new carpet gets attached to the car like the sill plates, along the rear side of the door frames, on the top of a section in the very back of the storage area, the storage door frame and by the seats.

Getting the new carpet in "just the right position" was the most difficult job. Once I got it in the right place I cut small holes for the seat mountng botls. It looks great now. Well worth a few hours of work.

I just did my 77 and did not use any glue. I did use carpet tape in a few places while forming the carpet. Tip: For the seat bolts, I came up through the floor with my soldering iron -holes were perfect.

If you want to do it the same as the factory, the front two bolts on each seat do not go through the carpet. A 'flap' was cut out of the carpet on three sides, with the attached side being at the front. This flap was slightly larger than the foot of the seat rail where it touches the floor.

The idea was that the flap would cover the front of the seat rail when the seat was pushed full rear. :beer

Just repalced carpet in my 82, the guy at Wilcox where I got the carpet said I will need about 3 cans of adhesive and I used less than a can. Only used really on seat backs and rear door storage. What a difference new carpet makes. Well worth a couple hundred bucks . Tom
