1975 Stingray Canary yellow Couple-4 sp L48.
Hey everyone, new to the site! I have quite a few questions regarding my 1975 coupe. My dad and I restored it about 7 years ago back to original specs. It was a great experience and the car turned out great. It really only gets driven around town and to and from cruise nights or shows, otherwise sits in garage covered up. Now, dad is retired, bought a 2001 so he could actually have one to drive everyday if he wanted to without being scared of getting a scratch on it. So, the 75 is going up for sale. This is where my questions come into play. Not sure how much it's worth being that it is totally restored. It has some rare options to it, and some other things that we can't find information on. The engine # and vin # match. It has the original 53000 mi, 4 sp manual transmission, L-48. It is canary yellow with medium saddle interior, and shoulder seatbelts.

Here is the vin# and engine # if anyone could help me with anymore information on it. Thanks for your help!

VIN #1Z37J5S419828
Engine #J5S419828

Welcome to the forum. The value of a 1975 coupe with the L48 engine according to Hagerty is about $11k.
Thats in excellent condition. Your car looks beautiful, and I'm sure is worth more to you and your father because
of all the work you guys put into it. There is one 1975 coupe for sale in Hemmings this month. They don't say what engine
it has, mileage is 111k, silver with red interior, 4speed, numbers matching, the guy wants $19,500 for it. I think thats
optimistic, but you never know. The true value of your car is what someone is willing to pay for it.

Good luck with the sale.

Beautiful car. You can get a good idea of the going rate by following auction sites to see what the going rates are. Try Mecum, among others.

What info are you looking for? Other than engine type (L48 or L82) there's no other option info encoded into the VIN. When you restored it, did you keep all the stock engine pieces? This will help value considerably.

Thanks for the compliments and the info. Mikey, all the stock engine pieces not currently installed would be the original valve covers, the cowl induction system, and the OEM alternator. Everything else under the hood is original OEM equipment and parts. What stock engine pieces were you thinking is missing? For show purposes in order to stay stock, you can have a maximum of 3 non OEM pieces. So, we opted to put chrome covers on and chrome alternator. From the VIN and engine #, can you tell me what info you gather?

One last question, how does the cowl air induction flap work that is in the hood? By the windshield, the hood is slotted for air, and underneath there is the flap that has a wire running to it so it operates electronically I am assuming. How does it work and is there a way to know if it is functioning properly? Thanks!

There's a switch under the gas pedal that causes the flap to open while at full throttle. This can be tested any time the ignition switch is on.

On the engine pad, there's an additional stamp on the right which will start with V, then four digits, then three alpha characters. What does this state?

Beautiful car--the twin to my '74 back in the day including the very rare rear window defroster. Brings back great memories. It should be driven and enjoyed. I would keep it after all the great work you have done.:cool!:

.

Why not have your Dad join? It's his car.

I just came across this website a couple days and thought I would join. If he wants to join he will. He knows about the site. I'm a little more proactive than he is when it comes to finding info about the car.

I'll take a look and let you know what I found. Thanks for the help.

Thanks! It took us 18 months from start to finish. We had our eye on it for 2 years and a lady owned it after her husband had passed away. She was asking way too much at first, and took her a year to drop the price more reasonable. The paint was chipped all over, interior was in real rough shape, but engine was solid, body was straight, and under carriage was mint. Amazingly, there was no rust anywhere under the car. It was bought to restore back to original. Great experience and time spent with my dad! I have only seen one other canary yellow C3 driving down the street. It was a '74.

I think I am enjoying it more than my dad now. He bought a 2001 that is his daily car, and he loves it! I'm more about the classic cars. So the rear window defroster is rare? That was one of the options I was wondering about.

Nice looking car.

Do you still have the air cleaner ring and rubber seal that sits on the outer portion of the air cleaner and seals to the underside of the hood?

Is all the ignition shielding around the spark plugs and on the underside of the block still there?

Did the 75s have the AIR pump setup? I noticed plugs in the exhaust manifold where the tubes would go.

Does the chrome master cylinder cover count as one non-OEM item?

Depending on your buyer, having all of the original items installed could make the car worth more.

1975 Corvette Base Value

75Stingray,

I noticed your thread via an email to me from the site. I have the April 2013 issue of Corvette Magazine with the "C3Buyer's Guide". It lists the following information:
T-Top - Show Ready: $20,500, Good: $15,500, Average: $11,100, Need TLC: $6,200. One-Year change: up 6%.
ADD: $2000 for L82; $800 for A/C; $1000 for OE Hardtop.

I hope this helps you out. It is a very nice looking Corvette. You can be proud of your restoration. :) :thumb

Have you considered joining a Corvette Club, then going on their cruises, car shows and other events. It can be a lot of fun. It would be a shame to invest that much time, effort and funds and not take advantage of all your hard work. What a great father-son story. Good luck in your future and enjoy life.

I have a 1979 L82/4-speed Corvette. I do a little auto-crossing with our club (CCA) in Maryland. We do a lot of events, so we are busy - a lot.

Regards.

yes, I still have the air cleaner ring and rubber seal. All the ingnition shieldings are still there, no air pump system and still passes emissions, chrome master cylinder is non OEM but still have OEM. Allowed up to 3 non OEM parts in order to remain in stock class.
