2001 white over red convertible
Hello all and thanks for having me as a member. Just bought a 2001 white over red convertible. My first C5. I have a 71 454 4 speed and did have a 77 L82 4 speed. I wanted to get a stick but when I asked the wife if I bought an automatic if she would drive it she said yes. I'm in Pittsburgh, Pa. and the car is being shipped from Mass. Should be here next week. Here's pictures of my other non Corvette. A 65 Malibu SS 396.

Z16 code

I wish it was a real Z16! The re-built engine has the L78 Vette cam in it so it's actually pushing 425 hp +. It was finished in 2002.

I'm not sure of the 396-425's cam numbers.

Are the cylinder head's exhaust ports rectangular or oval? It is a very cool car, enjoy!

Welcome to CAC. :w Congrats on the C5. I'm liking the color combo. :thumb I;m also liking the 65 Malibu. :D

New C5

The guy told me that It's his wife's car and it was one built for Budweiser and given to their their top selling distributors. That's why it has a white instead of black top. It's loaded up too as follows. Heads up display, dual zone AC, dual power adjustable sport seats with memory, fog lamps, sentinel, electrochromatic mirrors, power telescoping tilt wheel, 12 disk CD, performance handling package, performance axle ratio, body side moldings, floor mats. It has ZO6 styled chrome wheels and a Route 66 exhaust. When I get it next week I'll post some pictures. The car looks like it's brand new and the price was very very good. Picture of my first C3 bright yellow over dark brown 4 speed L82. This was a great car.

396

That I can't answer. I do know that the Vette 396 had 425 hp and solid lifters where the Malibu had hydraulic lifters and 375 hp. I think the heads were the same. Just different compression, stroke and cam. Here's a good story. One day a group of us followed each other from one show to another. I was the first car stopped at a light on the 4 lane and a new hemi Challenger pulled up beside me. His being an automatic and mine a 4 speed. When the light changed he jumped on it and so did I. The Malibu didn't bite till 2nd gear. every time I had to shift he would get as close as my door. By 4th gear he was about 6 lengths back and it was all over. We all got to the second show him included. He didn't say a word so I walked up to him and said I guess the old girl still has some balls. Not saying a word he got in his car and drove away. Now people at the shows call him second place. True story!

Neat!

In 1965, was the 396-375 heads open or closed chamber? Just curious..

Same stroke and different bore, 4.096 vs. 4.125. I believe the originals heads were kinda unique, open chamber design with oval ports. Usually GM packaged the open chamber heads with rectangular ports.

All of the original muscle cars had a "set" until emissions removed their fangs.

That is a very special car, enjoy.
