72 454 convertible, 2000 C5 Z51
Hi,

I just put down a deposit on a 95% restored 72 454 convertible. Hopefully by now it is being loaded on a truck and on its way. This is my first vette not to mention my first chevy so I know absolutely nothing about the GM engines period. Any advice on how to maintain this baby would be most appreciated.

If anyone can give me some common reoccurring topics I can put in the search tab and look up I am wanting to find out as much as I can.

I have a few technical questions about some things that I have looked up but I will post those in the technical forum.

I own a 72 Coupe 454 automatic. Feel free to ask me questions.
Welcome to the club!

Welcome aboard... congrats on your new baby!

Welcome and safe driving! She is a beauty I like the white and the convertible, it looks really nice.

Be careful thats a lot of hp, don't get sucked into idjiots that want to race you.

:w

thanks,

i cant wait to get it in, this must be what expecting fathers feel like.

Excellet Good Vetting

Congrates & Best of everything to you!

I used to own a Frame Off ,72 Air Roadster, Small Block, Auto Trans, Power Everything, Ontario Orange & Tan leather. My small Block "Hauled" so much so I worried about losing traction in turns. I can't imagine what the Big Block Drives like!! Enjoy but be carfull, there is a reason why there aren't too many original cars like that around anymore!:D

Dont i know it,
My first venture into the world of classics was when I was in college back in 92. I had a 69 mustang convertible with a 390 4bbl and 4 speed. I made the horrible mistake of loaning it to someone whose only experience with cars was the civic he owned. Needless to say I learned my lesson.

baxsom, welcome to the :CAC

First, if you haven't already, stop over into the New Member Introduction section and say Hi!

Second, feel free to ask questions. Pretty much anything you are going to come across with your car will already have been answered many times over. However, you're ahead of the game by buying a vette that's already in excellent condition. I (we?) always tell people to buy the best Corvette they can afford, because to buy a cheap one and think they're going to restore it for less than it costs to get the finished product (unless they're turning their own wrench)...they'd be wrong! :upthumbs

Third, make sure to use the "search" functionality of the site. Searching a few keywords in the appropriate forum can typically find you what you're looking for. Or at least get you close!

thanks for the reply,

i have been researching things like intakes, headers, and basic bolt on etcs and the info already out there is great.

are there any specific key words i should be looking for to find some common items or questions that get asked a lot.

Well, due to the immense amount of info out there, an FAQ or something of that nature would be difficult. If you are asking about "key words", those would be whatever you happen to be looking for at the time.
You think to yourself, "How do I change the fuel filter?" Thus, try searching for change fuel filter and see what comes up. You figure out your own key words based upon your question or area of interest. :upthumbs

Good choice of car!

Somewhere out there is an old article (I think by Greenwood) describing how to drive an early C3, try to find it and follow the instructions.

I think the issue with Big Block Vette's was/is high speed turns. The excessive front end weight doesn't want to go around corners very well, but hey, who cares, I wouldn't pass one up, Happy 4TH to everyone...........

sounds like a great excuse for a suspension upgrade hahaha

If that car is numbers matching you've got something special there. It could be a good one to keep original. I think the Big Block C3's are going to have some strong value in the next few years (even the Elephants). My car is a base L48 Coupe with about 5 options and a half a million + miles so I do what ever I want to it. I won't ever part with it so I don't care about preserving originality.
