Newbie with a story....

I got to drive our Z28 for the first time in 3 months yesterday. It was amazing. 3/4 throttle from 5 mph and I was going 65 in a 30 in a matter of seconds :D. The tires peeled out and the rear end broke free and gave me some much needed excitement. Ohhhhh and the roar of the engine! It was amazing, and something I really needed!

It has also driven me to the conclusion that... the Corolla has GOT to go. I need a daily driver that is actually fun and exciting to drive. I'm thinking Pontiac Grand Prix.... :) The Callaway C8 will have to wait... I need something I can make monthly payments on.

As one of the Forum members had in his signature..."Life is too short to drive boring cars". I totally agree. My daily driver/commuter is:
88 IROC-Z convertible w/TPI and Flowmaster exhaust. LOVE it! :lou
Yee-hah! And, it's gotten 28.6 MPG. Works for me!

My Corolla is only the 3-speed automatic, not the 4-speed so instead of getting 42 mpg on the highway I only get 32 mpg! Not such a great gas saver after all! The ~22 in the city isn't terrible, but it doesn't make up for the unexciting drive! The features are sparse at best as well!

The quote that influenced me most in my decision/determination is one that appeared on Jalopnik or Autoblog several days ago:

"If a car isn't fun to drive, then why drive it? Take the bus if you can, and at least you can do the crossword puzzle."

Have you thought about an older 'vette or Camaro?

Also, on the GP, might I suggest a Regal GS instead? They have more headroom, are a bit nicer inside, drive a bit softer, and are a total sleeper. It's pretty easy to get good economy also, as they are geared very tall. Though it's also possible to not get good economy, as my wife tends to illustrate... ;)

Erm, on the original topic... Cool story! Do the wonderbar and exhaust improvements make as much of a difference on the IHI turbo'd cars? At one point the main upgrade Callaway sold for them was the '88+ turbos.

Sorry to hijack the topic indycallaway, it's my fault. :ugh

I've definitely thought of an older Camaro (as I am ideally purchasing a '96 Callaway C8 Camaro next year). But not Corvette. The price of a Corvette is out of my league and I know nothing about maintenance for them (such as common problems, etc). A 3rd gen Camaro would be cool, but again, I'd like to stay away from older cars I don't already know how to do basic maintenance on. (Never had a car with a carburetor).

I've never driven a Buick Regal, but I definitely enjoy the 2003-2006 Grand Prix. Enough horsepower to keep me happy, plenty of leg room, and optional tapshift automatic if I can find one with the Comp G option. The gas mileage isn't as spectacular as I would hope and it's front wheel drive which I'm not too into... but it would be a daily driver, not a race car. They are a lot of fun to drive compared to the Corolla and have some dramatic styling.

:L Concerning a soft ride, I kind of like a harsh ride; that's why I like Camaros! You can feel those bumps and it makes the drive exciting like a roller coaster ride! The Grand Prix is a little softer, but I would definitely lower it and thus have that harsh ride as a side effect haha.

Hold off for the C8

IMHO, I say forget the comp G, or any other car like that and look fo a mid-late 90s Cavalier (Z24 if you want to be spotry...) and focus upon buidling your dreams and making them happen :upthumbs
