not a bad first day's work

Bernie
sure stop by if you are in the mood to work on it :)
i'm about to go out and hit the bolts with PB Blaster now for later on - was too busy yesterday to do anything on the car.

If it was pulled out I'd start getting too tempted to just store this original motor, drop in a 383 stroker. And since I went that far I'd have to swap in a Keisler 5-speed too.......
nope, ain't pulling the motor.......... at least not this year! :D

do it Barry....do it....

nope, won't do it and you can't make me!
;LOL

actually, I'd LOVE to do it and am hoping to be able to in a few years but NO WAY is it in the budget for this year and probably not next year either.

would be nice to be able to eventually though and store and preserve my original motor and tranny so nothing happens to it. This motor has already had a crack in the block repaired so I know it's already weaker than it should be and it makes me worry about it.
installing a stroker motor and a 5-speed would make driving it a lot more fun, better power, and better highway driving as I'd also swap out the 4:11 rear gears for a 3.08 or 3.36 but if I did it right now the wife would divorce me and the divorce would be a LOT more expensive than the motor would be. ;LOL

Understood. These things are a lot more complicated than a simple motor swap out, aren't they? ;) But hey - nothing wrong with what you've got. You could even get the Keisler without the stroker - it's a great mod. I've got it with a 3.73 rear - would be great w/ your 4.11 too.

Good luck with your current project.:upthumbs

Barry,

I'll stop by around 3:00 - 4:00 o'clock. Planning on being out of here around 3:00 - 3:30 (they owe me a few hours when I put in for 1/2 day of vacation last Friday and didn't get out of here til 3:00 or so)

Anything you need in the way of tools, solvents, tape, paper towels, etc...?

Also, I've been informed that our glass beader is available to use, so we can do the exhaust manifolds right away. Don't forget to get yourself some exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe donuts for reassembly. Yours are most likely 2 1/2" pipes.

sounds great Bernie :)

thanks for the tip - I completely forgot to put donuts on the shopping list - well, actually didn't know i had to.

I think I have whatever we need. If I don't have it it's because I'm not aware that it's needed.

see you later today.

Hi John
I know what you are saying and that's what scares me...........
I just keep looking at the paint on the engine block and waterpump and know my attempt at retouching it by hand (small paint brush) when I get to it just isn't going to make me happy one little bit. I've been looking at it and looking at it and am stuck about what to do short of actually pulling the entire thing out of there which i'm not prepared to do. I AM considering pulling the waterpump off to repaint. I prefer not to but it's just a couple more bolts....... geez, does it ever end??
I just know myself and what i want the engine compartment to look like and if I get all the other parts cleaned up and put back on and the block still looks like crap than I'm going to be very unhappy.
This is a disease that just grows and grows.

Why get interested in a stroker? Small blocks are useful only if you want to save gas. For just about the same money, you could be into a big block. I really wish I would have swapped out my '65 sb for a bb. I remind myself of that every time I drive the '66.

Hi Kid

not an issue i'm even going to worry about yet, not for a few years, but my reasoning was that I figured a SB should be a relatively easy swap without having to make major modification or requiring a bunch of fabrication to drop in a BB. Mark had to go thru a lot of work to put the BB in his car. Also, and at least as important is looking ahead to the future if I ever wanted or needed to put the original motor back in I figured it would be easier rather than having to undo any modifications i may have made to make the BB work.
The 383 stroker has almost as much torgue as a BB so figured it was a good compromise. I'd love a BB but would only want to make as few other changes to the car as possible - just enough that would be needed to fit the 383 SB most of which should be fairly easy to reverse in the future if needed :)
