is abs fault or codes stored or read by the OBD-1 system?
if so, then a scan of the alcl will show the fault?

It is on my 92. There are directions in the FSM on how to retrieve codes from both the ECM and ABS computers.

Not on yours ; requires a $$$ Kent Moore scanner to pull codes
On '90+ is displayed as a seperate module on the dash display when you bring the codes up

In fact, cars with ABS2 (85-89) do not have on-board diagnostics for the ABS. The ABS controller's diagnostics are "off-board" using a hand-held device, the "ABS Tester" (PN J-35890), which was built by Bosch for diagnosing the system and sold by Kent-Moore. The bad news is the tool is that, today, J-35890s are virtually nonexistent so, unless you can find one to borrow or run across an ABS Tester on eBay Motors; in a practical sense, other than the "Antilock" warning light coming on when there's a problem, any on-board diagnostic ability ABS-2 has is useless.

The good news is that most problems with ABS 2 can be solved without that device. There is an article which covers just that subject elsewhere on the CAC. See:
All About C4 Antilock Brakes and Traction Control

Thanks,
I appreciate the help. I had the ABS lite come on about the time the hub bearing issue came up and had hoped that the new hubs would solve the problem but it did not.
