In Autoweek, they have a whole layout on the CTS V series out in Jan of 2004. The engine? Badged an LS6 (Thats the new C6 motor folks not the old Z06 motor) is refered to in every other word as being straight out of Corvette !!! I told you so folks its happening right before your eyes the "watering down" of the American icon Corvette. I told you so....

Cool!

When those old farts crash the Caddy into the back of their car port garage in Boca Raton, there will be more donor LS6 engines in the bone yard for our older projects!

No C6 Z06 until 2006? Hmmmm. I guess Caddy gets first dibs on the motors. Now that Cadillac is trying to sell to younger sport minded buyers, the Corvette is steadily becoming the redheaded stepchild of GM.
What's next advertising the Corvette as "The closed thing to a Cadillac yet!”

Dumb move GM. Can you say Alante’?

:L :L :L :L :L

Heck of a marketing schtick, but that engine doesn't belong between a Cads frame rails.

Relax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This could be a blessing in disguise! Right now GM feels that Corvette owners are a bunch of gearheads and could care less about fit and finish. And as far as things breaking down, we can fix it ourselves instead of having somebody else fix it.

Now at last, the Caddy division will bring the fit and finish up to normal standards. And as far as the CTS (V), let them be the guinea pigs for once.

Think about it, the CTS will cost only $45,000 and the fit and finish will be light years ahead of the present Vette and it will out perform all vettes up to maybe the C6.

This is really smart planning on the part of GM.

Believe me, if the new CTS has 20% of the problems that we have the car will bomb and GM will halt the production.

A Caddy owner will not stand for it period, even though a Caddy is not really any kind of status car. It's only a mind set of days gone by, like 20 yrs ago.

Relax, and sit back and watch!

p.s. If the vette doesn't come out with a better built car, l'm going to dump my vette and buy a cheap CTS (V).

Alan

Interesting perspective.

I'd say this sharing of the best technology between Cadillac which is striving to once again be the standard of the world and the Corvette is a win win..

I'm very pleased with both the C5's I've owned and anticipate the continuing evolution of both the Corvette and the Cadillac will create two strong brands.

I saw the CTS V series and was impressed as well.

Kills both M series products and in the end thats what counts.

anyone see the caddy concept-cien,that car kicks ass, hope it makes it to the people, you cant even compare the Alante' to the new bad ass caddy.now G.M. has two bad ass cars.go get-um G.M.
Todd.

The Cadillac Cien concept car only proves my point. That should have been the next Corvette NOT a Cadillac. GM wants a new status sports car. The Corvette has always been GM’s status sports car and received the lion's share of high performance development but not anymore. While GM is trying to compete with other world-class cars they are actually competing with themselves. Just look at all the favorable comments. Even dyed in wool Corvette guys are being seduced by the “improved” Cadillacs. In these times of the leaner and meaner corporate mentality no one and nothing is safe. (Oldsmobile, Plymouth)

Corvette worked hard to get worldwide respect now it looks like GM is going to squander it in the name of higher short-term profits.

It is about dollars. The Caddy Cien is a mid-engined V-12 super car and not the Sports/GT car for the masses that the Corvette is supposed to be. I also don't want to be a driving the lesser of 2 Corvettes if they named that the SuperVette or something. Speaking of dollars, the new CTS-V is a bargain with the LS6 and the Corvette 6 speed tranny! Might get me out of my Corvette. I'm starting to see some sense in Cfour's wining! ;shrug

Indeed, now you guys are FINALLY getting it!

HELLO!!!!!!,,,,, by the way do you have a car port??? :L

Oh no!!!

GM management couldn't find their own butt with both hands. They are now building a new Cadillac for a buying public that is nearly extent. How many Diapers do the Chrysler boys sell, what happened to the Prowler? Is the new Thunderbird selling? Are we seeing a trend here? GM couldn’t see a trend if it had 4,000 wheels and ran over them and then backed over them on it’s way down the drain, driven by the ghosts of Alante’, Reatta, (an answer to a question that wasn’t ask), Oldsmobile, Camaro and a bunch of rear wheel drive cars. They fumbled the SSR around until it’s out of that buying segments reach, and trashed the Camaro to do it.

I think I now have the Corvettes I will own the rest of my life. I don’t need no stinkin maggot drive, wimpy steer, select this, and control that Corvette, which could be a Cadillac if you change the badges. I’ve had my Cadillacs and my Corvettes, the only half-breeds I want is Cher.

man, sounds like a bunch of jealous corvette owners.change is a good thing, the aftermarket can make lots of stuff for both cars now.its only going to make the corvette better.if you dont like it dont buy it,thats very simple logic.why waste your time on a computer bashing something you have no control over.what if they make the next f-body side by side with the vette, more crying and complaining?there is no point to prove except G.M. is going to have two bad ass cars.
Todd.

If you don't like that GM is sharing Corvette parts (like it ALWAYS HAS to an extent) then do me a favor - sell your Vette and find something new to cry about. This woe is me bit is getting a little worn. It's happening and I, for one, will still be just as into Vettes as I always have been. And besides, if all of the crybabies sell their Vettes then there will be more on the market, lowering the price a little so I can buy one.

There, you have my .02, so you can go buy a Yugo. Afterall, no one is using Yugo parts to build anything else so you'll finally have the unique car you've always wanted.

Pay attention, nothing was said about sharing parts; more was said about the bungling of a good product. Before you pop off about how good it will be, take a look at how good their track record is today. You have no idea what change will do when its only criteria are for doing something different. Change is not always good any more that motion is always forward. Get the point? Worn is the attitude that if it is different it has to be better. Hang around a few years and watch how thing come back to where they were before someone thought it needed to be changed.

I bought a new Corvette when it got a V8, when it got a 4 speed, when it got a coupe, when it got fuel injection, when the C5 was introduced, is that enough change? Not all of those changes did I think were for the better but I still got the Corvette I wanted, and I put up with the shabby 1963 coupe that GM built. Traded it for a ’64 and it was just as bad. Is that whining or is it just the way GM does business? The 60s/70s and 80s trash shut me off until 1992 before I could bring myself to buy another Corvette. The unbelievable change from 1996 to the 1997 turned me on to Corvette again. You see how that works? Build a good product and people buy it, simple.

Not many people that are into Corvettes as long as I have been call other Corvette people “crybabies” because they express an opinion that does not agree with yours. I see how much you are into Corvettes though, what year is it that you have?

I'm not sure why you lashed out as you did but maybe you could ease up a bit.

Bravo. I agree.

The problem I see here is people getting upset about the the Cadillac supposedly getting the Corvette C6's engine first. The C6 isn't even in production yet, but ok, so let's humor one another for the time being and assume it is.

So what?

Would I be wrong in suggesting that if the Cadillac came out with some superpowerful production engine that blew the doors off the Corvette, the same people would be *****ing that the Corvette didn't get that engine? Or that the Cadillac came out with some future type of engineeing enhancements that didn't appear on the Corvette - peple would be *****ing that the Corvette didn't get that technology?

My God people - we're talking about the pros and cons of change on something that hasn't even gone into production yet.

Back in 1996/1997 Corvette owners were *****ing and complaining about how horrible the C5 was going to be - and take a look at the accolades and awards the platform has received during those 7 years of production.

Last but not least: for the record, I have been looking at BMW M3s as my everyday transportation.

Why? Because right now, for my daily purposes, I like the styling, performance, and quality of the BMW M3 model. Plus, I like the idea of the backseat for those rare occasions when I have more than just one passenger to haul.

If Cadillac comes out with a model that I find just as visually appealing as the M3, that performs as good if not better than the M3 and has build quality as good if not better than the M3, I would have no problem buying that model - whether it's a CTS-V or something else - regardless of whether or not it has the Corvette C6's engine in it first or not.

the only reason i "lashed out"is because its one thing to express an opinion, but to beat every little bit of info to a 5 page thread is rediculous, its to the point were i dont want to enter the c6 forum because its",trash g.m.,trash the caddy, trash the c6.i told,i told, you," have a good weekend,i expressed my opinion and im moving on.i'm into vettes more than you know, and will continue to be. :beer
aloha,Todd.
