Help! Oh no...Opti Spark failure possibly?

You got FSM? Go to section 6E3 - A - 37, book 2.

The relay pic/location is on 8A - 201 - 20 - bottom pic. It's behing the fuse panel in the corner.

I didn't find those sections you specified but I did find 8C-28 book1 & 8C-29 View A - Instrument Panel Relays - RH. You are correct so it looks like the Fuel Pump Relay is inside of the Relay Module. There is instructions on how to get to it so I'll try that after a little sleep.

:confused

I AM? Hmm... Not used to that. Except in my own house.

Once I leave the house now..., well, then all bets are off yup.

LOL! I know the feeling all too well myself. Looks like the Fuel Pump relay is fine. Tested it then swapped with the horn relay (they are the same) and still no pressure. I'm going to look at replacing the fuel pump.

Now to put everything back together and research how much of a pain that's going to be. Great!

I think I said something about checking the fuel pressure about 23 posts back!!:boogie:boogie:boogieChanging the fuel pump is a easy job, takes me about 20-25 min!!:thumb :D

Yeah you did and it's looking like you are correct! Are you serious with it being less than an hour?

Being that I've changed at least 150 of them in a C4 in my Corvette Wrenching Lifetime,I'm serious as a Heart Attack!!:thumb

Give me a few minutes to wright it up,I'm No secretary,I'm a Tech, it will take me longer to type it up than do the Job!!!:boogie:boogie:boogie

You did check to see if the horn works through its own relay?

Maybe before changing the pump, check chart A5, Section 6E3 - A - 37, to test the fuel pump circuit feed, and ground. Do you have book 2?

Awesome! Although putting things back together I can't seem to get the damn panel on the passengers side back in. Had to remove it to check the relay. Unreal how tights the fit is. I've almost given up :).

Been there did dat. Some of those bolts call for a trained snake to re-install. Or a laser-guided smart wrench uh HUH :D

Finally got it. I needed to angle the left side in completely then the right. I said a lot of words that even I'm ashamed of :). Off to Chicago in the morning so the Vette will need to wait until Monday for a new Fuel Pump.

Need to buy the best I can find (cash not an issue). Nothing like cheap ass part (learned the hard way). Guess I'll check Napa or the dealer.

Do this

Before you do the pump check the TPS to be sure it is not bad and telling the ecm to not start fuel pump. Check out page 6E3-c1-14 & ce3-c1-6

I would determine if it had spark. Pull an easily accesible plug wire stick an approriatey sized phillips screwdriver into the connector inside the spark plug boot, put the screwdriver shank within an 1/8" of say the valve cover or other accessible engine metal and crank it when it won't start. If an arc leaves the screwdriver and goes to the metal on the engine you probably have adeqate ignition.

Then eval the fuel component. Have someone put the key in the ignition and turn to "On" (without cranking) while you go to the fuel inlet filler cap. Take the cap off. Listen to see if you can hear the pump run. If it doesn't pull out the rain diverter boot and put a voltmeter on the connectors where the wires go into the fuel tank. There shouldn't be but three. Measure em all while having your friend switch the key on/off. I believe once the fuel rail pressure is satisfied a pressure sensor may turn off the pump or on the other hand it may just recirculate un-needed fule back to the tank via a return line. If you have volts (and the the tank is grounded) and the pump doesn't run and you have no fuel pressure your pump is likely inop. Let's not dive off into sophisticated computer diagnostics unless you have to.

Thanks to ALL! It was the fuel pump after all and it was relatively easy to replace. I also replaced the strainer as well. Great learnings here with the troubleshooting!

Thanks,

MCNE
