i started up my 84 ,it died and I started it back up ,then the check engine light came on and it idles high now ,what happened any ideas?what do i check first?
If your not mechanicly inclined I can suggest two things to do that Ive done in the past:
Disconnect battery and wait for a little tehn reconnect it and see if this clears the code. If it persists you can take it to a GM dealer and they will hook it up for free and tell you. (They do that around here)
Normally Id suggest buying the tool I need as well, a GM Computer Scanner. That way you could get the trouble code yourself and diagnose yourself. (With the help of this wonderful forum.) Im learning these computers as well and people here have been instrumental with aid.
To get your codes out, all you need is a paper clip...
Stick a horse-shoed paperclip in A & B
Turn key on...do not start
Count the number of flashes your check engine light flashes. you will get a code 12 flashed 3 times x xx....x xx....x xx then any codes stored then three code 12s
