I am new to the C6 corvette. How important is it to install an oil catch can to the LS2 engine?

Hi there,
An oil catch can is supposed to collect excess oil vapor that is pushed out of the fresh air vent of the PCV system during high RPM operation.
It condenses inside, so it doesnt condense inside the throttle body and get burned by the engine.

All engines run at higher RPM constantly will have this condition and its completely normal.

Do you need it? No.

You'll only need it if:
You have an extra quart of oil during competition (as per the manual) or
You have "sustained high RPM" use.
It was installed because some owners have had their charcoal vapor absorbent decals come loose and foul the MAF/intake tract. Also, the oil may cover the MAF sensor and then it sends corrupted info to the computer. Then you car won't run too good.hnoes

I Agree....Plus there mostly used on Vettes that are supercharged or turbocharged

I picked one up for my Z. I think it was about $40. Only installed it a few days ago and there are a few drops of oil in there.

And a NOTE:

Oil will NEVER EVER contaminate the MAF sensor from the fresh air side of the PCV system.

Oil contamination comes from people who overoil the oiled gauze type aftermarket air filters.

Typically, c4c5specialist is dead-nuts accurate on this. If you're having trouble with oil and the MAF, you either are way "over-oiling" an oiled-cotton air filter or (not very likely) the engine has a serious blowby problem in combination with a faulty PCV system.

If you use an oiled-cotton filter, follow its manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and oiling and you won't have MAF troubles.
