65, 327/300HP...i'm getting small puddles of oil on my intake manifold after driving...i'd normally think valve cover gaskets, but where it is going sort of defies gravity...if it were coming from the valve cover gaskets it would have to go uphill to end up where it does....could it be coming up on the threads on the intake manifold bolts?...thanks for any help

Your idea that the oil is migrating past the intake manifold bolts is right on the money. I recommend that you remove each bolt, apply thread sealant and retorque. Do this to each bolt but one at a time, so you don't go in an outward pattern or warp the mfld.

I use Locktite hydraulic thread sealant, I will post the Locktite number when I get home.

I hate leaks!!!

I hate leaks!!!

Just say NO to fluid leaks

My father in law (recently deceased) showed me some 25 years ago to place a small, tiny, mineute daub of silacone gasket sealer on the threads of the bolts I send into a motor.

Its practicly the only place I use this type of a sealer.Otherwise I hate it.The rest of my gaskets use NO sealer or just the old style black indian gasket glue to hold the gaskets in place.

I feel nothing detracts from the looks of a freshly assembled motor then BLUE,ORANGE,OR BLACK goop oozing out from the seams because the sealer was used in-properly

The locktite number is 545. For best results, use on CLEAN,DRY threads.
I have also used a white teflon goo thread sealant in a tube. This stuff never hardens or dries, and again, for best results, use on CLEAN,DRY threads.

I suppose that now you're asking "how can I get clean dry threads?" Try a spray of brake cleaner using the thin red tube on the spray head. Let it dry and you're good to go. When done, change the oil & filter.

Are you sure it's oil?

At first I thought I had the same problem, so I redid my intake seals & used thread sealant, etc...later still had the oil puddles show up on the intake. I scratched my head, cleaned the stuff off again & smelled it...turned out to be gas! It seems that gas turns much darker if it sits around for a while and could be mistaken for oil, until you smell it...I then noticed the intake has a stain running up to the base of the carb...found my problem...leaky carb.

Excellent advice Tony

I agree Tony

Same thing happened to me, this strange very dark stuff on the intake manifold. Turned out it was a leaky Holley.
