Having a dilemma.....My oil pressure loves to sit at 80 when over 800 RPM's under 700 it goes to the usual 20-40psi. Temp is normal. What is the deal???

Normal? Thought the PSI's were supposed to be in the 40-50 range.....

Oil sender 101

If the wire comes off the sender ( open circut ) the dash gauge will read 80.

If the sender cant find a ground due to loose threads.. or bad internals same result..
try reseating the connector ( single female blade under rubber boot ) on top of the BIG SILVER BULLET by the back of the enging near the distributor..

That MIGHT get it.

Thanks
Vig~

10 lbs pressure above idle (idle being 7=17) is commonly accepted as being WNL from what I've seen At 800 r's I see as low as 29 lbs when it's hot out, blip it to 950 or so and I'm at 80 lbs. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Hey Vig, nice to see you pop up:w

What is the oil temp?

Give or take 10 degrees difference from the coolant temperature

I guess I will have to check what mine does. I dont think I have seen the oil pressure dip below 35 ever. However going from 35 to 65 when hot is a pretty good range I think.

Mine has hit 32 once or twice after some "spirited driving".... :D Other then that just cruising and anything other idling is usually 65+
