I know that the manual says to use 5w30 Moble-1. However, I live in the South (Atlanta) and it gets pretty hot and humid down here and my car has 94k miles on it. I was thinking of using 10w30 Moble-1 instead since it's so hot here most of the time. My question is what do you folks think about that? Would that be good for the car or should I continue using 5w30?
Thanks for the input!

In my two C4s and two C5s, I have used nothing but 10W-30 Mobile 1. Call me old school but 5W-30 seems just a little too thin for warm weather. You will probably notice a little higher gas mileage with the thinner oil but while getting over 28 mpg as it is, I'll stick with the 10W-30.
Good luck, Paul

Yes, I would switch to 10w, leave the 5w for wintertime. Wont hurt anything at all. Probably better off with thicker cranking viscosity as the engine gets older anyway.

When I was in SC, I would do this. Now that I'm at LSU, I keep 10w in it.

Unless you're running the car hard, either one is OK. I've used both weights. I really didn't notice any difference.

I don't use 5W30 in any of my cars. I switched them all to 10W30. That even goes for my Blazer which is the vehicle which sees the coldest weather. Two years in the last three, I've been up to SW Wyoming in the dead of winter. No problems starting or otherwise even at -20 deg. with 10W30 in the crankcase.

I use 10 in all our cars, year round. Even with our Chicago winters, I haven't had a problem. Then again, I haven't driven the Vette' in the extreme cold so I can't say what would happen. The Vette' is our only vehicle that I use synthetic in.

I run Castrol 10w40 synthetic with a Prolong additive all year around. It's nice if you want to pay $4.50 a quart.

GM used 5W30 for government mileage testing purposes because they could squeeze out a little higher MPG numbers with the thinner oil. Therefore, they had to recommend that weight oil in the manual, on the oil filler cap, etc.
I agree with others that 10W30 would offer better protection with no negative effects and that is what I use in all my vehicles.

I've never noticed ANY DIFFERENCE between the two. With 80k I switched to 10-30 & will stay with it. I dont often drive when it is below45-50 degrees so I see no advantage to 5-30 just my .02 worth.:D

you would be fine with the 10w-30 the 30 is what you are really worried about . don't really need 5w unless it is unbearably cold . i use 10w-30 in all my vehicles :upthumbs steve:w

Figure this one out. My car has 56,000 miles on it and when I would start it after it sat for about a week, a little puff of blue smoke appeared while using conventional motor oil. I since switched to Mobile 1 10w/30 and it hasn't puffed any blue smoke since. Hopefully the mild valve stem seal leak worked itself out. I don't know how or why but the smoke stopped with the use of synthetic oil. I started my car this winter when it was 10 degrees outside, no problem what so ever.

The owner's manual for the 1996 LT4 lists Mobil 1 10W-30 as acceptable if the temperature is above 0 degrees F. That is what I plan on using as it stays in the garage during the winter months here in Iowa.
