Hi yall! On our 84 vette, the right rear brake rotor keeps getting chewed up. When we bought the car, it was totally gone - we put a new rotor on it because we were uncertain if the previous owner was just simply too lazy to replace it when he did the brakes last.

Well, that rotor is already grinding into the metal - the other four are not. So, is this just one bad caliper? How can calipers apply "seperate" pressure to the back? Is there something else causing this to happen? :(

It does sound like you have a caliper sticking. Being 18 years old I would bet they are gettin worn. I would at minimum replace the one but my piece of mind would be replacing them all. Just my .02

:)

Ekkkkkkk!

Check the rear bearing on that side.....

Is is getting chewed MORE on the top of the top of the rotor then the bottom?

Jerry!

So emergency brake off.....

Jack the offending( suspect ) wheel in the air.

Grab the tire @ 12:00 & 6:00 o'clock

Pull your top hand TWDS you

Use you bottom hand to push the tire AWAY.

Now rock the tire back & forth...

Were checking the FREE PLAY/WEAR in the wheel bearings.

(Good idea to do this on all 4 wheels)

If the tire moved MORE than 1/4 of an inch... things are getting bad..

If it moved 1/2 of an inch ( OR GREATER )

Park the car... and read the above posts.

If your unsure how it should "feel" do a front tire... they are typically better as far as bearing slop goes.

Typically the right rear is the first to go!

Vig!
