I have the opportunity to trade my warbonnet yellow with standard saddle 71 coupe with aftermarket air, cd stereo # matching drivetrain (small block) with minor performance mods new interior 4 spd in #2+/1- condition for a 74 mille miglia red 4 spd convertible with original engine (also small block similar mods to mine) factory AC, black deluxe interior in #1+(if there is such a thing) condition. It will take a few buck but nothing life threatening. My preference is for chrome bumper cars but this 74 looks better than the day it left the factory. HELP would you make this trade?

The value of the chrome bumper cars are going up everyday. IMHO, I would have to stay with keep the 71 unless the 74 just gives you the right feeling. At any rate, I don't think you can really go terribly wrong.

Agreed

I agree with Brett on this. The '74 is also an emissions car (EGR), although it is just before unleaded and catalytic converters.

It is also my opinion the chrome bumper cars have more value than the rubber bumper sharks, and they are easier to work on, too-less garbage in the way. Again, only my opinion-I like them ALL! :v

Keep your '71. If the '74 is that irresistable-take out a loan and have BOTH!

I am biased :) I'd take the '74 again and again. I like the clean look of the '74. It is different than any other year having the split rear bumber, and no bump stops on either bumper. Although... you will still have a nice Vette either decision you make!

Good luck!

I have come to my senses. I have always preferred the chrome bumper sharks and have had a lot of work done on my car this winter. I was about to have a Keisler 5 spd installed in my coupe so the opportunity with the 74 vert would have included the 5 spd upgrade to that car. This 74 was just as cherry as I have ever seen. As to another vette, with 4 car and a 2 car garage I ran out of space a long time ago. We got about 4 feet of snow in the last week and the logistics of shuffling around the cars we have with the space in the drive and garage has been quite the challenge. Second best thing has happened. I turned a good friend onto the 74 and he is buying it. Another car well placed.

Chrome bumper sharks look a heck of a lot better than the plastic bumper ones, IMHO. Plus by '74 compression ratios had dropped, etc. Now if you were trading for a '71 'Vert I would say to definitely go for it - the chrome bumper convertible C3s are my favorite body style of 'Vette.
