Optima battery for C6

I put an Optima on the C6. They are a good battery, but nothing is perfect. Also - Optima was bought out by Johnson Controls from Milwaukee, who may, or may not, have an interest in keeping up quality as job one. Johnson Controls is the company that made the Sears "Die Hard" a star way back when - tremendous batteries. Sears repaid them by having someone else manufacture the brand, and they slid down to the current level of Sears mediocrity. The one great feature of the Optima is not having to worry about a split casing spewing battery acid all over the engine compartment - especially bad with the C5 (computer under the battery).

What exactly was the technical defect?
The Optima.

I tried changing everything, more than once in the starter case, not believing that the Optima battery could be the problem. I blamed the starter, the heat getting to the starter, the wiring, the alternator/charging circuit, a hot solenoid. I was frustrated to no end and afraid to drive the car in case I accidently killed the engine at a traffic light. I always parked so I could roll and pop the clutch to start it. I was about ready to dump the car, after I built it into a great ride; a dream of many years.

Bottom line. The OPTIMA sucked; two of them, in succession. Once I got rid of that P.O.S., all my starting problems went away. All of them. I had this professional auto electrician check all the related systems because I just wanted a Corvette that I could enjoy and not be afraid of talking out of the garage.

BTW, I had similar poor service from a 'red-top' in my little-used motorhome.

My Corvette is a Viper-killer and it starts, hot or cold with an Interstate battery.

I believed the Optima stuff you guys crow about, but now I know differently. I truly hope all of your Optima dreams stay true. truly :w

;) I still use the RED-TOP and have had no trouble at all out of it.....I guess anything can go wrong with anything new or old...

I just installed a Red Top. I love it! I am looking forward to a lot of years out of it! :upthumbs
