My vette seems to overheat when it's at complete stop, such as stop lights, traffic, etc. And then when my temperature goes up my "Service Engine Soon" light engages, but when I start moving and and my temperature goes down the light goes off, is this typical? :ohnoes

Thank you agian.

Check for proper fan operation, at 230* or so the fan(s) should come on. Check for proper coolant level & condition, is it low, is it rusty?

SES light engages? Out of suggestion and testing, start your car up at home, letting it warm up idling. To be safe i reccomend you stay with the car at all times, observe the digital temperature meter by pressing your "Guages" button (i think thats the correct one) until your display reads Cool °F, there will be a number displayed on the screen next to the speedo and gas. Watch this number as the temps warm up. When it reaches about 228°F, the primary fan is suppose to kick on (On my LT1 that is). And if the temp goes beyond that (235°F?) the secondary fan is suppose to kick on. Now this digital sensor can be accurate..or it can be inaccurate (depends on its age and condition).
That is a little fan test i run on my car every now and then to be sure they are activating.

Now, ive havent had a SES light come on when getting to 228°F, so there might be something definitely wrong with your system, or maybe a bad temp sensor or ground etc....

Of course, again be there the whole time observing your temps, should it get too hot that you be there to shut it off before serious damage can occur.

so as it turned out i had build up in my coolant resivour, somebody decided it would be funny to drop gum in in it, but thanks for the advice!
