I searched and found my 93 has the system. So I bought a new GM FOB. I have the instructions to program it but. I followed instructions in the owners manual and tryed to program the remote. First the light won't come on. I played with it for hours because the manual says to make sure it is on. To do this hold the door button with the key in. I don't have the old one so out of desperation I went and got the new one. The light comes on so I take the fob away turn the key to the off position the light stays on two seconds then goes off. I also found the switch on the door will turn it on as well but, the same thing. turn the key off leaving it in and the light stays on for two seconds then goes out. It just won't flash.
I read all the PKE searches I could find I found one other car with the same problem but no one answered him.
any ideas?

When I programed mine, I had to keep the FOB about ten feet away from the car while I was putting the car in the "program" mode. Once I got the light to flash, I went and got the FOB and brought it close to the car until the light quit flashhing and then took the FOB ten feet away again, then the light would flash again. Then you exit the program mode.

Matching Transmitter($) To Your Vehicle
Each key chain transmitter is coded to prevent another transmitter from unlocking your vehicle. If a transmitter is lost ors tolen, a replacement can be purchased through your dealer. Remember to bring any remaining transmitters with you when you go to your dealer. When the dealer matches the replacement transmitter to your vehicle, any remaining transmitters must also be matched. Once the new transmitter is coded, the lost transmitter will not unlock your vehicle. Each vehicle can have only three transmitters matched to it.
To match transmitters to your vehicle:
1.
Move all transmitters out of range.
2. Turn the ignition key on.

3.
Push TRIP OD0 on the Driver Information Center
twice.

4.
Within five seconds, press and hold FUEL INFO
until the PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY light
comes on.

5.
Turn the ignition off, but leave the key in the
ignition. The PASSIVE KEYLESS ENTRY light
should begin to flash to show the system is in
programming mode.
6. Bring one transmitter into range. The light will stop
flashing and stay on to show that the codeis stored.
7. Move the transmitter out
of range. The light should
start flashing again.

8.
Repeat Steps 6 and 7 with each additional

transmitter.

You don’t program any transmitters for two minutes.

0
You take the key out of the ignition or turn the
ignition on.

0 You have programmed three transmitters

Thats the exact programing I have.
The real problem starts with the manual says check to make sure the passive system is on. (I believe mine is off) Now keep in mind I don't have one that was with the car. I only have a new one I'm tring to program.
There are two ways to make sure that the passive feature is on. Either turn the ignition on and check to see that the PKE light on the drivers information center comes on for two seconds. (which it does not) or shut the doors and walk away from the vehicle with the transmitter. (which I don't have).
Now I have played around and with the new transmitter I can
Take the transmitter out of range
turn key on
push trip ODO twice
press and hold Fuel/Info
play with door lock button on drivers door to get light to come on and stays on
turn ignition to off leaving key in.
Light stays on for two seconds and then goes off. (doesn't flash)
It's close but not in programing mode
The manual does not say how to turn the passive entry on If you don't have a working transmitter.
I have a limousine service and I've programed a lot of car remotes I know how touchy they are. but this one is missing a code in the manual to turn on the passive system on (I think)

I bought a new one for my 94 LT1 recently. Brand new. It was the simplest method of programming. All you have to do is stand next to the driver's door (that's where the antenna is buried) and press both buttons at the same time then release. The car will see it and it will work.

Lemme know.

PKE

I bought a new fob for my 93 in January of this year. A couple of things that helped me to program mine were.

First the battery in the new fob was no good which cost me several attempts to program it with out success.

The battery they try to use is the CR 2450C which is supposed to replace the original 2450. The difference between the two is the original battery the sides were straight and on the new replacement they have two different diamaters

Here is a link to the owners manual for a 93.

http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72323

In my case I removed the key from the fob and placed the fob in the house about 25 feet away from the car and followed the instructions in the owners manual.

After I replaced the battery the PKE recognized the new fob without any problems.:beer

Did you ever get the PKE to work? I was curious to see how it worked out for you.

pke problems

I have tried for TWO YEARS to get someone to help me w/ my PKE problems. NO ONE has come forward w/ any knowledge on how to troubleshoot the system. I even wrote to the c4 specialist and he never even responded to me. When I went to dealer w/ problem right away the problem was the computor for PKE only about $500.00 to replace but they never said WHY! I just live w/o it and used the key to lock and unlock doors. I would like to get mind working but other than programing instructions your not going to find anyone that can troubleshoot system. I wish my problem was programing but its not. The fob works w/ hatch release and right door but will not beep horn or unlock drivers door and if you sit in car waiting for wife to get done shopping you can hear the damn thing cycling like it will open and close door locks every 15 seconds or so. you have to walk away from vehicle to stop this or do like i do. just don't use it. Its maddening to say the least.

I can try to help you as I just bought a new one and had similar problems.

1) Is it the original PKE
2) Have you tried a new battery (I know stupid question)
3) Remove the fuse to reset it.
4) Get a new PKE fob.
5) If you have a new fob, stand near the left door, about a foot away, that's where the antenna is located, and press both buttons at the same time then release.
6) Do you have any diagnostic codes from the ODB plug?

Try that an lemme know.

As for the PKE cycling the locks when you are in the car, it is supposed to do that. There is a switch inside it that sounds like a rattle when you shake it. That is so you can wave it at the car and it will unlock the doors. It is also a safety feature in case you leave your keys on the seat and lock the doors manually behind you. According to the FSM, if you do this you can gently rock the car, the switch will make and it will unlock the doors. So even though it is in the ignition and you are sitting there you may be rocking the car with body movement and that is enough to cycle the doors. Mine will do the same thing.

Thanks for the reply, from your questions it sounds like you have experiance w/ these things. Anyway I'll try and answer your questions the best i can.
1) Not original fob , car had only 32000 on it when i bought it and did not get a fob w/it.
2) Yes, But by now its over a year old, Its been that long since I gave up.
3)Yes
4)Bought new fob f/ chevy
5) never tried that!
6) I have a scan tool to check but when i had it at chevy dealer they said no codes popped up.
I can go to chevy an get a new battery and try #5 next week.
Thanks for your help.

Tony, first a new battery will probably help along with pressing both buttons at the same time.

Also, do you have a factory service manual (FSM)? If not I can either tell you or send you PDF's of exactly how to pull codes. Yo don't have to take it to a dealer. You can run a whole BUNCH of diagnostic tests by yourself just by jumping pins 4 and 12. Here's how to do it in a nutshell.

Look at the plug. Count four over from the top left to the right, so that would be the fourth pin from the left side as you're looking at it, #4. Do the same on the bottom. Number 12 is also the fourth pin over from the left. Take a piece of non-stranded wire and jump both pins together. Now, put the key in the ignition and turn it to on but do NOT start it. You will either see C12 which means there are no faults and then the number 1 and three dashed lines, 4 and the same, 9 and the same and then 1.0 which means the test is complete OR, you will see H and a number indicating a history code or a C and a number indicating a current code. The FSM will tell you what the codes mean.

As for the PKE battery, you can get one at Rite Aid, Eckerd, CVS, anywhere like that. You do not have to go to a dealer for a new PKE battery.

Let me know.

I'll try that as well. I think mine is because the passive system is turned off. without the old FOB I can't turn it on!

Not true. Just follow the instructions in your owner's manual and it will work, that is IF your entire SYSTEM is working. A new PKE fob has absolutely nothing to do with it as far as your old one is concerned.

Codes Tony, we need codes. <grin>

You'll get it to work if I have to help you troubleshoot this thing for a month. I just need more information.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't think he has a 16 pin DLC?????

I was under the impression they came out in 94???

You can still pull codes from a 1993 ODB plug. My 94 has a hybrid OBD 1/2 plug. You cannot do an emissions test with it and it is virtually impossible to find a tester for it with adapters.

I realize that, but he would have to have the pin designations (letters) for his DLC which is not numerical??

Perhaps someone with a 93 FSM could help?

I think I suggested that in a previous post. I can't remember. But the system should be the same as far as the PKE goes. Same antenna, same inputs, same FOB, it should work the same. I was just trying to help him by seeing if he has any stored codes.

I was under the impression that all pre 94's had the old style DLC. Just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed something.

Thanks John & Paul,

The secret is that terminal "H", when:) grounded, shud display the PKE codes in the lower left corner of the DIC.

You went thru quite a bit of work & just to let you know it's appreciated by the members.

You're welcome Rabbit. I will go out of my way to help anyone, anytime. I LIVE to help people. I do not know it all but I can find answers. I also want to mention that I am "standing on the shoulders of giants" when I am in this forum. I too have received a LOT of help and I too am very grateful for it.
