I was wondering how big the gains are from MSDs HEI distributors? I'm in the market for either a new distributor or one of those HEI Kits by MSD that converts the orginal distributor into a high performance one.

My car misses occasionally when revving around 4k-5k rpms and I was hopeing that a new distributor would correct this problem. I've read that the factory HEI kit has some problems with spark energy at high rpms.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

I replaced mine with the MSD unit. The only improvement, other than it is very nice looking, is the ease in which you can adjust the total advance and the rate at which it comes in. Others who understand distributors better than I would probably indicate that the only advantage is the look of the billet aluminum.

-edit- Or, I have a brand new, never installed big cap Accel HEI distributor ... fully adjustable mech & vac advances ... you install YOUR coil & coilcover on it ... its 4-pin hipo module and your coil good to about 7000 rpm ... $125 (firm) includes ground ship in continental USA.
