Just got my 96 LT1 back from the pro-shop after having the heads & intake ported and polished, 3.54 gears, 2400 stall converter, 52mm TB, longtube headers, cats removed and Corsa exhaust put on, AND a ZZ409 227/517 roller cam kit installed.

Are there any concerns I should be made aware of if I chose to take this car on a 4000 mile road trip to the west coast and back? Like would all that sustained driving at hwy speeds do any harm to the cam, or any other part of the drivetrain?

I realize this may be a really stooopid question, but I feel obligated to at least ask. I hate "surprises".

Thanks

Did you have the computer reprogrammed for the new cam?

generally no, but if you didnt tune it you might run into A/F ratio problems

Well, hi Vader....fancy meeting you here.

Yes the pooter was reflashed. I suppose the roller rockers and roller cam of today would be more "forgiving" than a conventional "60's" style of solid lifter, high lift-longduration cam.

I need to make a run to the West Coast and thought it would be a good run in the vette, but I didn't want to pound the cam lobes flat in the process by running 28hrs straight at 70mph. At least not until I got it to the strip to see what it can do. <grin>

Thanks.

As far as I know the new 3.54 needs a 500 miles break-in period (short trips) other than that the worst that's going to happen is that after that trip you are going to love that FAST bullet more than your life!!!

Oh I already do love it. Almost have to learn how to drive all over again though. It's really tough not to spin the wheels even when I'm not trying to show off or anything.

There is one thing I gotta say. Don't let anyone tell you that installing 3.54 gears will only cost you a couple mpg in fuel economy. How about more like 5 to 6 mpg. Mine went from 28.5 mpg @ 70mph to 23.0 mpg @ 70 mph.

(But it was most definitely worth it, though) zoom, zoom...heh, heh, heh

No need to tell... I´ve been there, I went from 2.59 to 3.54 two months ago, and long tube headers two weeks from now, and MSD 6A Control Unit & MSD Blaster coil five days ago!!!

:cool

My Vette is drinking like an alcoholic!!!

But like you say ¡who cares! ruuun, ruuun, ruuuuuun!!!
