2002 Torch Red Coupe
Hi

The vette in queston is a 2002 with 11,500 miles coupe, auto in minto condition.

What do you make of it between the front seat cushions to the rotor assembly problems happening more then once.

I was ready to drive 425 miles and pay for it and then drive it home.

Do you smell something fishy??

Alan

It looks OK to me. Corvette owners expect a perfect product and should. They put down good money so when things goes wrong new owners take them to GM dealerships to have it fixed.

I still hope you are enjoying the hunt.

I could think of dozens of possible reasons why the rear rotors were replaced.

Also - my Pontiac had a known issue with the steering linkage making a groaning sound. I brought it in for repairs and they greased the linkage.

The dealers service records lists "STERNG RACK ASSMBLY REPLACED". So you never know.

The stock rotors tend to rust then warp if it sits for a while, which it looks like it did since it has such low miles on it.
Mine did at 8,500 miles. It sat for at least 2 months before I bought it.
And they fixed the famous "rocking seat problem". They might have scuffed the seat when they fixed it.
The drivers seat pulls the stitches near the seatbelt under normal wear.

All in all, it sounds normal. I would upgrade the brakes if you get it.

The Hunt is Over.

Hi

I am set to trek to Ohio this coming Friday to close the deal. I was concerned because l never had any real problems with my C4.

This 2002 with under 12,000 miles has the GMPP until 04/07 and l will extend it out as far as l can.

Are the rotors made of tin?? And the seats are that fragile.

Alan

Alan,

The leather on my 96 sport seats were better than the C5 sport seats. I have 33K on my 2000 and have not had any problems with the rotors.

Dwayne

If I had seen the service report on my C5 before I bought it I may have backed out, it was three times as long as that one. Apperantly they fixed everything OK because this has been the most troublefree car I own. The seats do rock and I have purchased 2001 adjusters to remedy it to change them I have to dissassemble the seat so I am putting on new cushions, wires and covers (they need it after 92,000 miles) so you can assume while the seat rock was fixed the covers and cushions were replaced. It may not be possible to replace the seat adjusters without replaceing the covers and foam but I will find that out in due time.

He probably had a good relationship with one of the service writers.

I have gone thru the same stuff. If you get along with a service writer, they take care of you. Nothing wrong with having problems repaired.

It is VERY important to torque the lug nuts evenly to 100ftlb. Unevenly torqued lug nuts contribute to the disks becoming warped. There have been many threads on this, and c4c5 has said it is true. When c4c5 speaks, I listen. :D

I would also be a little concerned about all the rotor assembly replacements... Hopefully they got it right the last time.
The extended warranty should give you some extra peace of mind.

Sounds like GM got the bill for a full rack job.

And .... you got the grease.

Things like this should be reported to GM since we all pay in the end. You have to wonder if the repair costs were passed on under warranty work that was never done?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

How do you think the dealerships keep their heads out of water. There really is not enough profit in selling new cars.

Now selling used cars is something else.

No doubt, thats what they did.

Its a shame whats going on, the dealers practices are bad enough, if only the cars were built better int the first place.

But thats another story in itself.

I owned an auto/truck repair shop for nearly 20 years. I started buying new C4s in 1991. I have owned three C4s.

I did not have any new car dealership experiences until 1991. All of my Vettes had repair issues. 99% of the time my issue was repaired and done correctly. I never had to take the Vette in again to fix a previous repair.

I read these forums and so many folks complain about the "stealerships". Then when someone posts information showing that a "stealership" and ultimately "GM" ACTUALLY repaired a vehicle, ALL HE** breaks loose!

Hey, is anyone paying attention? :eyerole

Obviously the previous owner took the Vette in when there was a repair issue. The service writer did his job and the technician did his also. Believe it or not, there are many very COMPETENT people working in the auto industry. We need to recognize these folks (c4c5specialist being just one we all know!) for all the training and BS they put up with from the many different personalities they need to deal with on a daily basis!

Do you ever hear c4c5specialist complaining about how a customer treated him? NEVER! He has much TOO much CLASS to do that! On the other hand, I could write a book about how some of my customers treated me! For the most part, my customers were phenomenal. Then again, I treated them with courtesy, respect and actually listened to and questioned their complaints.

Thanks all for letting me get this off my chest.

When I got my 2000 it had 27,000 miles on it and had to have the rotors resurfaced (was getting that rocking while braking at slow speeds). This fixed the problem for me.

Nobody said every dealership is dishonest and out to rob the customer.
Unfortunately lots of us out here just don’t have the good experiences to report. I know we tend to forget the good and remember the bad.
There could be 100 great dealer experiences for every 1 bad story posted on these forums, and as for customers being idiots and a-holes, that’s something they should be trained to deal with. Working with the public is never fun.
I had a service writer call me "another Corvette crybaby" because I wanted to wait for my car to be serviced and I insisted they don’t wash it.

Don't blame all Dealerships

Hi

I have found that it all has to do with atitude between the service advisor and the customer.

Mechanics do blow things sometimes but it's the service advisor how should set it straight.

When either of my Volvos go in for service they always look beyond my problem to see if there are any issues like recalls or service bulletins or anything to do with safety.

That's why l buy Volvo's, l used to buy Mercede's but they became elitists.

I know give the mechanic a break.

Sellers reply

He had trouble with the brakes surging the first time and then it happened again and it was fixed. He felt that being that his 36,000/36 month warranty was ending he complained again to make sure that they were right. So far it's been ok and hasn't come back. Also when they replaced the rotors, one of the rotors was the wrong color. I have no idea what he was talking about.

And as far as the seat was concerned it was rocking a little and then he said that he wasn't comfortable in the seat so they switched the foam and then they tried to do something else and then he had them redo the seats all over again.

It seems that he has a very big family and they all buy from the same dealer and are really big customers.

So everything as far as l am concerned is OK and we are moving forward.

Alan

Why do you say dump it wwr? What explanation can you give for your response? From what Alan just said it sounds like he found a good car that came from a very neat and picky person that took good care of the Corvette before him.
