I was on my way home last evening around 10pm. the vett had completed a little over a 900 mile trip to the car craft car show in minneapolis. the car ran flawlessly through out the entire trip. i was not 20 miles from my house sitting at a stop light when i was bumped from behind by a silver camarro. the camarro proceded to back up and continue to ram me from behind. i had no where to go cause there were cars on all sides of me. the camarro then pressed against my bumber and began sliding me down the road with all 4 of my wheels locked. i slid about 3 feet and almost hit the car in front of me. i was on the phone with the police at this time. the dude backed up after hitting me 4 times and cut across 3 lanes of oncomming traffic and tried to escape. i waited for an opening and followed in pursuit. the police intercepted us a few miles down the road and arrested the man and charged him with a DUI. the man practically fell over in his field sobriety test.

My question is how much do you think it will cost to repair, repaint, replace my bumper. there are many stress cracks near where he was hitting me, about a 1.5 foot scuff and a few cracks and dimples where his lisence plate was pressing into my bumper. i want to get this fixed properly because my car has a total of 3 other misc. rock chips in it and thats it. any and all advice is much appreciated!

Thanks and drive SAFE!

Also check your rear wheel well openings as they will crack at the top edge in collsions like this. Sorry it happened. Best take it to a shop as there is bound to be underlying damage under the rear faicia.

Since you are in Chicago, I would say the best place to take it would be is D&M Corvette on Ogden in Downers Grove, they are great people and do a ton of restoration work. I'm sorry I don't know about the cost (fortunately) but I think they are higher in price, but deal almost exclusively in Vettes.

What the heck is wrong with people? I could see bumping you from the rear at a stop. But 5 times? Drunk or not. That's retarded!
Sorry to hear he messed with your baby. He'll have plenty of time to think about his life in a cell with bubba. I just don't understand people that have problems and they create problems for others. Sounds like you're dealing with it ok though.

Good luck on the repair. Sorry to hear about that person's stupidity transferring onto your life. He'll serve his time. Insurance will pay for the damages. But your life can not be replaced. With drunk people anything can happen. Just am grateful you weren't hurt!

My experience with rear enders is once the plastic bumper is creased it can never be made right. I've seen repairs made on them that looked good at first but over a short time the crease begins to show through the paint. Sorry! But, I have seen this toooooo many times

What a NIGHTMARE, bet you didn't sleep well last night. Thankfully you weren't hurt, great that you got the guy though :r

Sorry about your car, hopefully the dirtbag had a job and insurance and you can get it fixed right without it coming out of your pocket.

thanks for all the responses guys, i got my police report here and i am going to have my car checked out asap at a place that specializes in corvettes near my house. I wish to attend a car show next friday so i need to get working on this!!!

DO NOT rush the repairs simply to make a show... there's always another one. You need to make sure there's no hidden damage (most likely there is due to the moron hitting you repeatedly). It goes without saying that you should have already been in contact with an attorney over this matter.

Good luck to you

Very sorry to hear that this idiot decided to make you his target.

If it were my car and insurance is going to take care of it, make sure the facia(rear bumper) is replaced along with the styrofoam inner pieces. I had an '86 Camaro and some kid pulled out in front of me, front end damage. It looked fine for a few days until I noticed the front end starting to sag. When I took it in for a quote, the shop said the inner supports were broken.

Take it to a Corvette shop and get it done right. Don't rush it either, it may take a month for the shop to get it done properly. I know that sucks, but you want it done right.

Good luck.

Off topic: Hey Orange84... you ought to change your name to Agent Orange. :D

Don't know why, but after looking at your car, it just hit me that should be your name. You paint job looks awesome! :upthumbs

That's alot more original than my name, I could have used the help awhile ago with that, thanks for the compliment on the paint, the interior matches.

The other name I was thinking of was Bizarro Grand Sport

Start a new thread and post a couple pics of your Vette. Pretty rare color choice, looks great.

My 84 was rearended a couple years back,... it actually worked out to my advantage because there was already some remnant damage to the rear when I bought the car... when it happend it made me slightly bump the car in front of me. Took it to the chevy dealer locally to get a quote and the insurance company ended up cutting me a check for $3500... and that was to REPAIR the rear; not replace the panel (which is what I did... bought a new panel from someone parting one out for $400, did the work myself!)....

Perhaps this will give you some kind of baseline though... I would imagine you sustained more damage than I did, however.

Sorry to hear about this.... I would have attacked the guy swinging if it were me....

Heckler & Koch

Yes H&K is how i would of handled that situation after the 3rd bump maybe the 2nd but thats me repair cost here in Alabama sounds like bout 1500 bux or less but i know lots of body shop folks n they are always needing plumbing work so if it was my car probly get it fixxed practally free my question 4 this post i guess would be wonder wuts it cost to bribe my butt outa a murder charge n depending on the town i would say 6 to 12 grand.

i would make his insurance pay for 4 brand new tires also! if he was pushing you while the wheels where locked you have bald spots and at 70 mph you WILL notice it.

i had something similar happen to me earlier this year. rear end quarter panel crack about 3 inches fix and repaint rear of car. 1800 bucks was the estimates i got.

i think i would of yanked his @ss out of the car when i caught up to him and proceeded to whoop on it until the cops got there!

sorry to hear that about your vette. There are crazy yahoos out there on the road that shouldn't be driving at all. I hope everything goes well for you and your insurance is really flexible with the damages. Good luck!

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuue hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim!!!!!!! Please tell me he has insurance. We all know he doesn't have a lick of sense, but hopefully his wife paid the premiums. Take that Camaro of his in the lawsuit (if he didn't use it as collateral for bail), sale it and get the $$$ if he has no insurance. Time to stop this nut jog now! Thank God the cop got on it and caught his stupid, drunk a**!!!! Thank God he didn't hurt you--your feelings will heal.
Much luck to you. Keep us posted.

Just wanted to second the motion about D&M Corvette...I just recently purchased the 1984 vette for my son as a college graduation present....they are super folks there. From what I have heard, some Chevy dealerships will bring vettes to them for repair when they can't fix it. Wish my 96 vette wasn't in Tampa right now (working a contract job there) or I would have it there getting these ODBII codes checked out!!
