Been looking at getting some “poly locks” for my noisy rockers, last week was my 3rd go around in having to adjust them, they keep getting lose, is there a brand of “poly locks” fellow members prefer or have used with success?

Prices range from $18 to $60 bucks so I thought I’d ask before I make a decision. Thanks

Oh and I've got Crane Cam roller tip die stamped rockers.....

Isn't a Stover nut what is originally on there? Why not just use those?

I was under the impression that Strover nuts would strip the thread on the stud after several times of use. I'd hate to use a fresh set and then wear out the stud and have to eventually replace those.

If you're running stock stamped steel rockers, Crane makes "Kool Nuts" or something to that effect that are made specifically for the job. The head on the nut is made so it sheds oil directly onto the rocker ball and they have the typical allen set lock like other polylocks. Kinda hard to describe, but you'll know it when you see it. HTH.

I have these in my '82. They work nicely. They are "fatter" than the normal poly locks you find in full roller rockers - they are about the same diameter as the rocker balls themselves, so the oil that drips onto them will fall straight down. I'm using them with a set of cast-steel roller tip rockers and they work fine.

The real question is - are your current self-locking nuts backing off, or are you compressing a lifter, or worse yet - wiping a cam lobe (or lobes?) Might want to investigate that first, and make sure the nuts are the problem. To check, get some carb or brake cleaner, spray the nuts real good to clean them of any oil; wipe it off and put a small brushmark (paint, any bright color will do) across the nut and stud. Next time you re-adjust, you will see whether the paint mark aligns properly or not. If not, your nuts are backing off, but if they ARE aligned, you need to look elsewhere for your problem.
