First of all, Ill thank you all in advance for some much needed help on this car. Heres the story.

Im a dealer in Indianapolis, Indiana and Im possibly taking a 1988 Callaway Roadster in trade in the next week or so. Im also possibly getting a 1996 Roadster with the LT-4 also. To be honest, Im lost as to the value of the Callaway. What I know is that it is a dark blue vette with a tan top and tan leather, 14k original miles, 6 speed and in near perfect condition. Locally owned in Indiana and stored in a climate controlled garage. What I do not know at this point is if it is a full aero car or not, and I will have a VIN # soon to find out the history on the car.

It took me the better part of a week to find this place, and the only reason I found it was contacting Callaway directly. The gentleman there said he would help me trace the car once I had the VIN #, and as stated I am in the process of doing that. I have not seen the car yet, but I have seen the 96 and if it is in the same condition, this Callaway will be a beauty.

I know what he wants for the car, but I have no idea of its value. This is holding my deal up on his purchase of a Mercedes Benz SL55, so can anybody help me? Id really like to not lose my pants on this car if at all possible and if my deal goes through the car will be for sale at once! As a sign of gratitude for anyones help, I would offer this car to members of this forum first. This might sound like a sales pitch or a baited hook, but its not. I just need some help to conclude my deal, thats all.

Once again, thanks in advance for your help and Id be happy to provide any information I can if needed.

Josh, That is great that you found us, Welcome :beer

A few more details would have to be known about the car before any ballpark or guesstimate could be offered...

Items such as:

Originality, wheels & body are two of the biggies with trim items as well...

Are there any known upgrades (from Callaway) Their records would clearly tell the story on that however, I wasn't sure if the curent owner offered any paperwork about that :confused

Also, You mentioned the car was an '88 - Are you certain it is a 6 speed? The ZF (6 spd.) trans wasn't offered iinthe Vette until 1989 however a handful of cars were changed by Callaway cars and the upgrade was in their catalog for a while...

Do you have any pictures of the car yet?

Let us know when you hear more and again, Welcome :w

Here is more info from the owner, word for word.

"I purchased this beautiul Dark Blue Metallic, with Saddle leather and saddle top Callaway Convertible from Konkens Corvettes 7 years ago with 7k miles on the odometer. The dealer had obtained the car from its second owner, a physician who had purchased the car from its original owner in 1991. The original list price when new was in excess of $85,000.00!

In 1988, 124 Corvettes were sold with RPO B2K option. The Twin Turbo Callaway conversion, performed in Old Lyme, Connecticut increased the stock L98 5.7 liter V-8 to 382 hp and 562 lb.ft-torque. This resulted in an advertised 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds.

The Z52 sport handling package included larger front anti-lock disc brakes, Borla exhausts, longer air dams and power steering and engine oil coolers. A heavy-duty radiator with an auxillary boost fan was part of the upgrade as well. A set of four 17 inch Dynamag magnesium racing wheels were included in the package as well for the first time in 1988. These silver painted five spoke 17 x 9.5 wheels have the Callaway imprint on one of the spokes and were the first made available as part of the B2K option. These wheels are no longer available, and may prove to be a collectors item in the future.

This beautiful car includesd a 4+3 manual transmission, electronic a/c, power drivers and passengers leather seats and the odometer shows 14k miles.

Only 500 Callaway Corvettes were sold during their five year run from 1987 to 1991. By purchasing this car, the new owner would become a part of histiry with one of the rarest, fastest , technologically advaced automobiles for its time! Anyone would be proud to add this creampuff to his/her collection."

Word for word from the owner, does this help?

I can also tell you the car did not cost 85k when new ;) From a dealers perspective I can't see you giving any over 20k trade if that. To the right buyer that car will probably sell for 27-30k, would be my guess.

Hi Josh and Welcome to the CAC

I don't know much about the Callaways and I know even less about assigning a value to one, but I do know that there's one on the internet for sale right now you may want to take a look at.

Good luck with the deal. Maybe this will be just what one of the members here has been looking for!

Well, he doesn't seem to mention the Aerobody in that description. He seemed to go into some detail, so I'd assume it doesn't have that. These are cool and unique cars, for sure. However they seem to sell somewhat slowly, which isn't surprising for a low-volume, expensive, ~15 year old car. It sounds like a great car (if only it were a hardtop 6-speed), though.

So its a 4+3? (6speed is from 89 i think)

Groeten Peter.

I made the trade for both cars!

Sorry Ive been away, I was in Tenessee fishing last week and just got in late last night. I will be getting both cars tomorrow since our weather here is now tolerable enough to drive both cars to my store. I know a few of you PM`d me about the price and so forth and wanted some pictures. I will be able to send pictures tomorrow afternoon and give you a real specific walk around of the car or cars if you are interested in both. I was going to keep the 96 LT-4, but when I was gone I also traded for a 1952 Jaguar XK 120 Raodster in good condition, so that might be my spring toy now:D ! Please let me know what I can provide you via PM and Ill do my best to get that done. If I cannot sell it here, it will most likely go on ebay later this week. But Im a man of my word and since you all have helped Ill offer it up here and here only for a week.

Thanks for your help.

Josh, I'm only an hour from Indy, where is your shop located??

We are in New Palestine, which is 8 miles east of 465 on State Road 52.

Both cars are getting detailed as we speak.

I will say that BOTH of the cars are in excellent condition.

Let me know if you need more info or pictures.

Could this be the '52 XK 120 I saw in an auction in Florida last weekend? This one looked pretty nice.

Jeff

I sent 4 pics to the address on here. This is #92 of 400 and 1 of 6 and the odometer reads as of right now 014263 exactly. It has a 92 bumper but I have the original bumper also which go back on the car after its fully buffed, which will be tomorrow.

No its not that 52, its a local car. But if I may ask, what did that car bring at that auction? Im curious to see if I bought the car well, or if I stepped on my you know what!

Let me know what you all think of the Callaway, and Ill get pics of the 96 if youd like.

Indy is only an hour away so I'm pretty sure I'm going to see this car Saturday if the guys are going to be around their shop. Pictures will be taken and they will be posted later in the day.
