Hey guys,
I was wondering about something and wondered if anyone here has had a similar issue.

Anyway I have something in my 1980 that puts a slow drain on the Batt when car is parked, and I can not lock the doors. Now could one of the power lock switches be broke in the unlock position? you can not lock the doors with the lock knob, you can not lock doors with the key, already bent one of the door keys I have trying to lock door. so if the door switch is broke in the unlock position would this keep doors from locking and drain batt? and if so what is easiest way to disable the power locks?

Thanks, Mike.

Sound like one of your locks has a shorted out motor.
It is your door lock motor that is giving stopping you from locking your door
I don't know if there is a way to bypass the motor(s).
I had a problem with one of mine turning very hard to the point where I thought the key would bend or break, and I changed the motor and all is well now..:thumb

Thanks for the info Bill, I will assume that it would be the door lock motor on the drivers door since that is the one giving me all the trouble, have not even tried passenger dock lock with key yet.

How hard of job is it to change out the door lock motor?

Mike.

Nope mine was the pass side,
drivers side never been changed

if you have an AIM it will show you how to remove/install the door cover

Just a thought, your 80 might not be the same. On my 88, the power door locks and the power sport seats were on the same circuit breaker. The seat adjustment action abrades a power wire under the drivers seat and door locks/power seats did not work. I started checking things out and sizzled my finger on the circuit breaker that controls those items, could have been a mess.

Yeah I could see that could be a problem, but my 80 does not have power seats. just power windows and power door locks. I know the door locks are always hot, that is why I was thinking a switch in the unlocked position. but the door lock motor makes sense.

Well, I just took the door panel off drivers side, to take a good look see in there to see what I need to get the doors to lock and unlock. and a little bit of white lithium grease later my doors lock and unlock now.:thumb:W

I love that white lithium grease, heck I think i like it even more than Duct Tape:boogie:boogie:boogie:boogie:boogie

I've experienced a very similar problem with my 1980. My power locks were not working when I bought it, but that turned out to just be a fuse. However, they recently stopped working again (haven't checked the fuse yet), and when I went to move the car around in the garage the other day, the battery was dead dead - the first time that has happened. I can lock my doors with the key, but the passenger side operates much better than the driver's side, and if the car has been outside for a few hours in the cold, the driver's side will not work with the key and I have to go in the passenger side...and when I do this, the driver's side lock is even difficult to unlock manually from inside.
