DONT KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT CARS , BUT I HAVE A 79 VETTE AND THE POWER DOOR LOCKS ARENT WORKING , WHERE DO I START TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS? THEY WORK ON VACUUM OR ELECTRIC?

the door locks are electric. The first thing you need to check is the fuse for the power door locks to make sure it isnt blown. If the fuse is in good shape then check the power door lock switches. The door lock switches on my 1980 had corrosion all over the back of the switch and was what was wrong with my door locks and had to replace them. Another thing you need to check is the wiring harness to make sure it is still in good shape and all wires are connected good to the harness. Let me know if you need anymore information.

I agree with RW24. I had to replace both of the switches on my 82. Also the connector on the back of the switch was shot. The switches can be found locally at Advance Auto parts or NAPA. I had to try about 5 switches before I found a pair that worked. The connector can be found at Ecklers or other Corvette places.

There's also a power window relay. This single relay operates both windows, so if the relay is out, then neither window works. If your fuse is good, and the switches good, then check the relay.

The relay is located inside the center console. To the left of the ashtray area. (You have to remove the console side to get to it though.)

Hey Steel79, just recently fixed this on my 81. Here's the thread.

After you check what these other guys said and come to the conclusion that it's either the switch or wiring harness, remember that they work in a pair (the switches). If one of them is messed up, it will in turn mess up the other switch. So, if you disconnect one of the switches the other will no longer work, etc.

Good luck!

PM me if you have any further questions.

THANKS

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH FUSE IS FOR THE POWER LOCKS?
ANYONE HAVE A DIAGRAM THAT SHOWS WHAT EACH FUSE IS FOR?
ILL CHECK THE FUSE THEN ILL CHECK THE SWITCHES AND WIRING, WHICH I THINK IT IS CAUSE THEY BOTH DONT WORK.
