Does anyone have sound clips of power effects and b&b tri-flo exhausts systems am trying to pick one and I hope someone can help me. I want a Exhaust system that is deep at idle well thanx for your time. Oh yea i have a stock 94.

I don't know about B&B but doesn't the Power Effects site have a sound clip of their systems? :confused

_ken :w

Power Effects

Hi, The power effects site does have a sound clip, however the clip does not do the system justice. I have installed their system on my "94", and am happy with the results. There is quite a bit of resonence inside the car however. I purchased mine directly from Power Effects, and they gave me a decent discount, however it is still the most expensive cat back system I have seen. I thought I would use the tunable feature, but I just keep it wide open. My nephew has a Borla system on his Z28 LT1, it sound very nice, and for a lot less money. I wanted the extra 1/4" the P.E. system has, as I have done some mods to the engine.

resonance

What gear /speed does that resonace occur in? Is this with the tunable knob closed
(minmum flow) or open (max flow)? Have you tried a cross pipe?

I'm seriously considering this system, I was hoping the resonance would be minimal
with the exhaust knob closed. What I want is low/no resonance and performance
increase.

Power Effects

Hi, The resonence is the loadest between 1400 & 2000 rpm, -crusing speed. When you close the system the sound quiets, but you also loose some performance. I wanted this feature thinking my significant other would like it quiet, but she enjoys the sound. The guy from PE was very upfront with the resonence, but I wanted performance at all cost. You can carry a conversation in the car with no problem, and I also enjoy the rock and roll with little problem. My suggestion is to find someone nearby you who has the system to see if it would be a concern for you before spending the money.

the sound quiets...

... when you close the system, is this resonance now barely audible?

I take it you have normal convesations even with the exhaust opened all the way?

Thanks for your input!

Power Effects

Hi, With the system closed it sounds about like stock.

Gary

I've been pretty happy with my B&B. Sounds & looks great.
On a stock car you're not going to see much gain from a cat-back, at best they would be minimal. I got nothing in the 1/4mi. with the change to the 3" B&B on my 94.
There is some interior resonance right at 1500-1600rpm, other than that it's not a problem IMO.
Definately a deep tone at idle.
Sorry I don't have any sound clips for you.

If well designed, exhaust should get you 10 rwhp I think.
It makes sense that getting the exhaust out quicker will help.

For those of you running aftermarket exhausts, submit a review on the product you're using in our Product Reviews Section if you haven't already done so.

I have this system on my 95 6 spd. It is definitely louder than factory in any of the 6 positions. It sounds really mean when opened up but the resonance is unbearable at highway cruising speed, 70 mph 6th gear. In the closed position, the resonance is still much more than stock. I added sound dampeners and absorbers in the cargo area, it helped out a lot in the closed position.

P.E Exhaust

Well a slight difference of opinion, but I would still recommend a test drive before you make the investment if at all posible.

I will just stick in some $$$ issues.... A typical C4 is probably worth, lets say even 15 grand.... B&B triflo costs over a grand, so does power effects (1400?)... so basically, the exhaust system costs close to 10% of the car's value..... a bit steep for this numbers guy:)

While I disagree with using that kind of logic I get your point and the fact is cat backs on the Lt1/4 cars are overpriced and the performance gain, being minimal if at all, doesn't justify the cost.

FYI you can find some good deals on used exhaust systems out there. I paid $500 for my 3" B&B which was mint, it had about 1500 miles on it when I bought it.
just my .02

Yeah and who found the deal for you :t

I also agree that $1K for exhaust is too much.. I think in the last 2 years I have had 3 different exhaust systems on my car.. I buy used ones and create my own.. I thikn I am going to re install my flowmaster system but also may try a Borla system if I can get one used

Power effects

I have this system on my almost stock '94 Coupe. The resonance is unbearable in the open position and even closed is much greater than stock. I have e-mailed another member to see how well his sound dampening efforts have worked.
On the other side of it, I definitely could feel and increase in power which became most notable at full throttle. The unit is very well made and fits perfectly. I install them in my garage at home in one afternoon. Hope this helps. DGA

cross-over pipe

Has anyone tried this and successfully eliminated the resonance
that way? Or do you have to rip up the carpet and sound proof
the passenger compartment?

sound dampeners and absorbers

Aggie95,

How difficult were these to install? What did you use and how
much did it cost?

Andy

Exhaust is a decent mod to do to a basically stock car. However the best horsepower gains will be after peak power. When I added a Flowmaster system to my ZR-1 (which already had headers on it) I gained 12 RWHP @ peak. But after peak is where the power got better. I gained 23 RWHP @ 6600RPM.

Check this pic of comparerd dyno runs of mine. The blue graph is headers alone and the red graph is after the Flowmaster install. Note: This was also @ ~80°F

http://biz.digicat.org/Pics/Misc/Dyno/flowmasterdyno.jpg

Notice how the power just flatlines once it reached 350 RWHP. The car really woke up with the Flowmasters. It makes more power everywhere in the RPM band. But really shines after 5400RPM.
