Hi,
In our manuals there is listed a power port supposedly under the console for cell phones and CB's. Has anyone tried to access this? I ask as they say after the item is hooked up to close uo the console and not to splice into the wires. So my guess here is these are just wires for hard mounted items not what is considered modern power ports, IE lighter sockets.............

On my 96 there is a power outlet on the console under the lid with the cup holders.

Right, this is the normal lighter port. The manual mentions another under the console you have to disassemble to get too. I think this though is more a hardwired access for items than need dedicated power. I was wondering if this is the case.

The only thing I see in my service manual is wires under the console. The manual says the ends are taped off. I dont know for myself and I am not that good at reading wiring diagrams.

Look inside the center console arm rest. You can remove the carpeted piece on the bottom of the compartment. Towards the front are wires.

You can splice into these wires.

Up to you where to put the port or connector.

:w

I went to my car and checked. When I bought it there wires with various plugs for phones or whatever and there was XM antenna that was on the support for the rear hatch When I checked there were wires coming from under the carpet that led to a power port behind the passnger seat. I wish I knew what all the other things were for. So i guess you can tap into the wires under the console to add a power port

Thanks, I thought this is what it was. I just got back from a couple of stereo places $1,500 to molest the car and put in a double din GPS with option I want. This is not including a rear view. This though would be a plug in where the original could be put back in without issue.

A window GPS is sounding good about now but I probably will need more power ports....................

With all the things I found looking for this power port I may go to XM radio they are offering a radio for 19.95 plus the subscription .

If you like music quality do not go with them. The problem with XM and Sirius are they have lousy bandwidth per station so the compression is so high the music sounds horrible. I had a three month free with my 2012 Sorento and there is no way I would pay for the service. Now for talk only the compression may be acceptable.
