Just wondering if "Power Pulleys" from various companies are worth the cost (about $165) and effort to install?

Any REAL gains to be had? or just a lighter wallet?

Example would be: ASP power pulleys

Any thoughts?

Sorry, I'd change pulleys, MSD ignition control unit and long headers at the same time so I culdn't tell about the gains if any from the pulleys alone, but I'm still curious. I wonder if somebody can tell us some facts?

If you car is mostly a street driver and you find yourself idling at lights and stop signs a lot, the power pulley may not be a good deal for you.

The power pulleys slow down the speed that the alternator, power steering, and A/C turn. This means reduced performance at low RPM (idle). It could cause charging problems, poor steering performance and poor air conditioning performance.

However, if you're cruising or racing most of the time, the power pulley may reduce the horse power losses on you car.

That's my 2 cents.

I was afraid this could happen to me and have those troubles but nothing of this happened. The set had a smaller alternator pulley to compensate idling speed. I'm most of the time at stop lights (daily driver) and it charges perfect. The A/C works fine too but I don't use it much in the city. (warm weather most of the time down here)

But like I said maybe someone can share more experiences! One thing I know is after those changes my vette revs like h*ll! (headers,MSD ignition & pulleys)

Sorry, Just an FYI. I use the March power pulleys (amp.) 3 piece on my '84. If it helps me, you can bet it will help you.
I think its $$$$$$$$ well spent.
Good Luck

I put these on my Suburban and noticed very slight change; it was barely measureable on acceleration tests.

What I did notice, was a much harder steering effort while parking. (ala TUNA)

I'll never do it again.

Anybody else?????

I'm looking at the upper RPM scale, say 3,000 up to 6,000 rpm's for autocross use, daily driving is something that occasionally happens, but not much. Mostly club events, and car cruises, ect...,
I drive a convertible, what is "A/C"?

Anybody else running these Power Pulleys?

You always have your A/C on since you drive a convertible:L:L:L

Air Conditioner. (just like Edmond says) ;)

I just find some article (GM High-Tech Performance July 2003)that shows a gain of 17hp & 13 lb-ft torque in a Pontiac 305" at the rear wheels in the Dyno.

Here the chart: Sorry folks, the server says the file it's too big :eyerole

So in theory, if that added 17 HP and 13 lbs. to the rear wheels of a 305, it should add more to a 350 right?

I have the asp crank pulley and it is a great piece. I think it was like $50 or so from summit for the L98 corvette.

I'm not sure about that Edmond, but the Pontiac 305 went from 219.9 hp to 236.9 hp and from 290.8 to 303.8 lb-ft torque at the dyno. It says that they did several runs at the dyno because they didn't expect that much gains with the pulleys and it made the numbers every time!

The best hp gains in the dyno sheets start at about 3500rpm and the biggest gains are at 5000rpm.

The torque gains improve all the way from 0 to 5000rpm beeing the biggest at the 5000rpm.

Maybe some one here with more knowledge can tell us what to expect in a 350 engine (more or less gains?).

George :w

I have my ASP crank pulley installed and will be doing a small write up on the process either today or tomorrow. I have to get my digital camera from my brother first! I want to show some pictures for the forum.

i installed just a crank pulley on my L98 Vette and went from a best mph of 103.79 to a new best of 104.73. judging from the trap speed increase i got about 10hp out of it.

there has been no cooling issues (maybe thats because of my 160* stat that keeps the temps really low anyway), and the lowest i ever saw on the digital volt gauge was 12.4 volts at idle (600rpms). there have been absolutely NO issues with the A/C or decreased power steering operation
