When I bought my 79 coupe the power steering pump leaked and a rebuilt from Ecklers came with the car. A few weeks later I had it installed, then the first time I took the car out and "pushed" the engine, it immediately kicked off the belt. When I took it back in to my mechanic he showed me that the pulley had a wobble to it, which had to have happened when the pulley was pressed on to the new pump. So he ordered a new pulley, installed it today, and tonight as I was cruising about 60 mph I heard a screach and it threw the belt again, not to mention causing the other belts to flip over in the process. It has to be associated with the new pump. Wondering if there are any spacers or anything else that may have been ommitted when installed. It appears to me that the new pulley does not line up quite square with the crankshaft pulley therefore at higher rpms it kicks off. I may check with Ecklers to see if they can trace back to see if the previous owner was provided the correct pump. I am wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with a rebuilt pump or if you have any other suggestions of what to tell my mechanic to investigate?
