I have an 88 Conv. 4+3. About a week ago, the driver's side power window began slowing down. The "up" toggle on the console moved the window up, the the "down" toggle did not work.

I ordered a new regulator/motor unit from Eckler's and put it in the car without attaching the glass, etc. just to see if it was working. Amazingly (to me anyway) the "up" worked (a lot faster than the old one) but the "down" did not work again.

I put a voltage tester on the dark blue and brown wires leading to the motor, and on the "up" toggle it the needle went up strongly. On the "down" toggle it barely moved.

I know next to nothing about electrical problems, but I was thinking it may be the console switch contact, or perhaps a relay somewhere upline. Is there a way I can troubleshoot it, keeping in mind that I am a real auto electric novice.

Thanks,

Mike

Only things you have with the windows is Power-Switch-then motor...try taking the console off and switching the switches

If you want to check manually

With ignition in RUN
On the switch:
Pink..constant power
2 black wire...check for continuity (grounds)
Blue (up) Should have power when button in up (to ground)
Brown (down) should have power when button pushed down (to Ground)

If its not any of the above...you could have gotten a funky motor.

How'd you do that?
