Hi all,

I'm replacing the intake manifold gasket and before a put it all back together I have a quick question...

Where the push rods go into the block there looks like a sleave or insert, some are flush with the block and some are sticking up a bit...see the attached picture.

Is this normal? Should I be concerned that some are down and some are sticking up? What are they?:confused

Thanks for the help.

Jeff

Those are the lifters. They ride on the cam lobes, which in turn open and close the valves. If you were to turn the engine over by hand you would see them go up and down.

This is perfectly normal.
