i have an 86 l-98 4+3 with alluminum heads . ive installed
k&n filter, accel 8.8 mm wires, accel hei super coil, 160degree thermostat, a/c delco rapid fire plugs, walker rear y pipe with the
balance tube and hooker aero chamber mufflers with the dual 3 inch outlets, . factory specs is 235hp and 330ft lbs tq, how many gainscan i expect and im considering an A.D.S stage 2 chip
instead ofthe hypertech thermomaster because i had an 84 crossfire z-51 with the same chip and it performed nite and day
different than most would believe.

Youve probably gained about 10-15hp with those mods.

A chip will do you no good, other than making your fans come on earlier and advancing timing for the lower tstat. You can advance the timing yourself, and install a fan switch wired to the main fan to keep the temps down, and come out about $200 cheaper.

Chips dont do anything like they advertise in the magazines, not unless you got a CUSTOM chip for the mods. Even with your limited mods, this wouldnt be much help. (Youd need a cam/head/intake change)

I would beg to differ...I have a stock 85, I replaced the chip with a Hypertech street runner chip and got a noticable performance response. Not only quicker but also got better gas milage. I sold a stage 2 chip to Vigman who also noticed a big difference over the stock chip.
The Moderator by the name of Jeff also makes custom chips for almost any year.

My friend that has an LT1 just installed a set of Flowmaster 50 series and he says there is resonance from 1500-2000 rpm. This is interesting since I read a lot of people did not have resonance issues with the 50 series.

My 1988 L98 rag has the hyperchip (installed before I bought it so can't compare) but I would like to think it makes a difference. From what I understand, the chip causes more fuel to be pumped in and changes timing and other related components to accommodate. I know it lessens gas mileage...

Len? does the chip make any changes to the 4+3, as far as the kickdown out of overdrive on the highway, mine wont kickdown out of OD above 2300 rpm as designed ; though minedoesnt have the detent cable either so it shifts off reading the tps sensor, wondering if i can adjust it to trick the od unit without
affecting drivability. i would liketo be able to kick down out of overdrive at as much as 2500rpm instead of having to coast down below 2300then nailing it . also which stage are u using stage1(streetrunner) or stage2 (thermomaster) and if stage 2 has it affected your catalytic converters.

I dynoed my car with the HyperTech and without. The results made me sick. I lost HP and TQ all over the power band and the curve was very eratic with the HyperTech. Without it the curve was smoother and I had an increase in hp and tq.
