Question re: lowering

This doesn't make any sense to me. First of all, you'd have to be driving three hundred miles an hour to cause enough lift to lose control of the car. I always laugh whenever I'm behind a crossfire or a porsche or some other car that has a speed-sensitive spoiler on the back that pops up at forty miles per hour to keep the car from losing control and hitting a tree. The effect of lift is greatly exaggerated by car companies, I suspect so that they can sell more optional rear spoilers. The myth of controllable lift is akin to the myth of additional horsepower from a K&N air filter. If lift were really a problem, and if it could be controlled simply by not lowering the car or installing spoilers, then every car would already come with a spoiler to ensure that the car stays on the road instead of hitting a tree. If lift were really a problem, then all of the ungainly and unaerodynamic Volkswagen Things from decades ago would have left the road and hit trees due to wind buffeting and lift (instead, they have happily rusted into oblivion). Cars are heavy enough that lift isn't a problem unless you're driving three hundred miles an hour, I'd say the bigger issues are adequate suspension components and the car's ability to deal with lateral forces.

I don't think leaving the ground is as much an issue as stability at high speeds. I'm sure the car companies test the aero package on their cars and they should know what their doing by now.

G. Winter has a good point...A small dent in the nose of a NASCAR can upset the stability of the car at high speeds. Areodynamics are essential at high speeds. Why do you think the C-6 doesn't have pop up head lights? Try driving your car at 120 mph with 2 bricks strapped to the hood.

I tend to come up with these wild ideas.... modifie the park-foglight assembly,, put in some small headlights small amount of rewiring ... No law says how high the headlights have to be? Wonder it they would be up high enough to light up the road ? The fog lights are near worthless anyhow.:)

Most states have laws regulating headlamp height. It's usually not more than 54", nor less than 24", measured from the center of the headlamp. ;)

I knew there was an upper limit, but the lower limit is new to me. I am not so sure the C4 headlights are 24 in up.

Hot rod roadsters have always had a hard time wuth the law because their headlamps were too low. I imagine, depending on the Officer who stopped you, the height could range anywhere from 18" to 24". ;)

I looked briefly at this and concluded that they are not high enough to light the way too well. I'd be interested in your conclusions.

BTW, I hated the look of the Flowmaster tips, which stuck out too far. I had them cut off; replaced with some chrome angular tips.

Also noted that my rear is too low, as the half shafts angle upwards towards the tires. They should be straight across.

On the headlight subject I believe you are right. It would be hard to get good lighting . Looks as thought the fog-park lights are only up about 10 or 12 in . I hate the looks of the headlights up.:( I do plan on doing something with them in the spring better fog lights and modifie the lenses, or maybe the very high intensity headlights. In this way I may be able to run with those in twighlight. I will start a thread on it when the time comes.

On the second point. I have a number of questions on exhaust that have been covered to some degree in other threads, but I have not had many things answered. So in the near future I will start a thread with a list of specific issues. :)
